Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Quote: Don't know if they are great birds 'cus I haven never had any yet. BUT, since I'm one of them [horrid, evil] English people [that folk should avoid], I thought I oughta get an English bird or two in the flock.

It depends on the dog, and the training, and the amount of supervision; my cousin's German Shorthair has started herding his free-rangers (we've had two different, unrelated, GSPs who decided they were cow dogs; you never can tell).

I'll have to reinforce/ make a buried boundary my yard fence before I can get any terrier, of course: can you imagine the fun they'll have in this sand?
We don't have a boundary fence - the terrain is too difficult here with the trees and forest. SO, we got an electric field trainer, but use the audio as the signal. She has learned very well and comes when she hears the beep. Of course, it took a lot of work to get her to understand and listen for the beep. I wouldn't do it in the winter

While I do applaud you for finally speaking up (as you said, you have wanted to say it from the first time I posted it), this seems more like a bit of a snappy attack. Just the way it is coming across to me, but again the "written" word can be deceiving. But I take no offence.
I will tell you that until you are in such a situation you have no idea how you will react.
First off all of this happened in a total of about 8 minutes, from the time I told the woman in the truck to leave to when they finally got to the light and took off out of sight. I in no way knew that there was a threat until I had kicked open the door and the men were there with their "weapons" raised to me (which they dropped and lowered as soon as they saw my gun). I yelled to the kids to run to the house and lock the doors at the same time as I WAS DIALING 911!  That is why Maxx was walking in front of the truck, to go home. By that time dispatch was transferring my call to the right dispatch for my area after I told her what was going on along with my address and at that point the men had already ran into the truck to take off. They were only about 1/3rd of the way down the street when the correct dispatch picked up and I had to say my address TWO more times before they would even let me tell them the truck plate number. By then so many numbers had come out of my mouth and my adrenelin pumping like never before I could no longer remember the plate number other than the first two and last two, which I gave them.
In NO WAY did I put my property before my children and I can tell you right now if Maxx or any of my other children had  been hit or even a toe ran over I would have unloaded my clip into the tires as they drove away. The only thing I wish I had done different is to use my phone camera and take a pic of the plate number before calling 911.
My children are my life and I will never defend anything else over my children ever. I am proud of what I did and have no reason not to be.
But thanks for your input anyway. I do know that every one has an opinion and while I may not agree with every ones, I do not dwell on it, I only take it with a grain of salt.

As a parent, there will always be people who think you're doing it wrong.

Did anybody ever get it right...?

I agree with all of you! I would never say that I do this parenting thing right, just doing the best that I can. Man I have heard some interesting things from other parents ever sense I became a parent, but I was a teenaged mom. I got pregnant at 16 and my DD was born just a few months after I turned 17. I had the "bright" idea to take my 2 week old baby to the mall for a few hours. As my friend and I walked out of a store, this lady came up to me and said...."Wow, what a beautiful baby. Are you going to keep her?" I said, "Nope, I brought her here to advertise her for sale."

I have so many interesting stories from being a teenaged mom and how I was so horrible for having a child and that I could never do my child right. I love watching super nanny, because it just shows that even people of the "correct" age screw up their kids just as much as teen parents do.
