Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I
So i ordered off of amazon storeys illistrated guide to poultry. Anyone else have it? Do you like it? I already ordered so if it sucks too late :p
I have it.... Has a few good sections, but I learned more here by asking questions, or even just doing a search for specific topics and reading old posts.....

But the specifications for coops are nice :) a good reference to have on hand....

If its the Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds, it's an entertaining book, I wish it went in more depth and that they had found some better examples for some of the breed pictures, some of them are barely recognizable.

They should not be able to breathe the same air at all. At least 50' apart if possible, or keep the newbies in the garage or other side of the house.

Hey Jess... where does the 50' come from? The house I lived in for 20 years was only 24' wide, and my entire lot was only 35' wide.

Can a chicken really sneeze more than 10 feet?

I can do 10 feet.

I was doing my volunteer shift at Pasado's today when I saw a rooster with a few hens in one of the barns. I'd seen him listed on Petfinder a few months ago. He has a neurological condition that affects his balance. His head kinda bobs around. Looks like a BR. I got so depressed that I broke down crying. He'd lost all of his tail feathers. He even lost all of the feathers on one wing (not sure about the other). It looks like it belongs in a pack of chicken wings you'd find at a grocery store. I think I'm going to have to adopt him. I just feel so sorry for him. I want to give him a home where there are no other roosters. Maybe the girls wouldn't feel inclined to beat him up. They named him Rodney, and I'm wondering if they did that because he gets no respect.

Mom says that it's time for a second coop. We're considering our options. In the meanwhile, I'm going to talk to the farm caretaker, ask questions about Rodney and make sure that I'm not getting into something I can't handle. I just want to help the poor guy and give him a good home where someone will love him for who he is.
Poor rooster, hopefully with a good care and lots of love he will grow his feathers back.

Hey you guys, I just found wheaten Marans . . . I didn't even think wheaten anything would be of interest; why didn't anyone tell me how beautiful they are?!!! I think I must have a couple.
Is this called chicken math or what? I think I am out of control again.
Cowgirlrace has great Wheaten Marans and Black copper I think. My Wheatens lay really dark eggs but they're just gettin started. Her prices are very reasonable!!!
Does anyone know of a good link that shows the stages development for candling? I have never done it before and I am not exactly sure what I am looking for.
It's been answered I guess
don't think I want a roo; just a few girls for those wonderful chocolate eggs. I found a breeder in the midwest who will ship 5 -- kinda pricey but should be good quality and just might do that. Still thinking and trying to talk myself out of it.
