Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Chance/Fate - to each their own. Hindsight is always 20/20 isn't it? One thing is for sure, she made certain they would not be back around her nighborhood. Honestly, I probably would have done the same thing. The paper felt they should brag about it.

I don't think it's fair for you to speculate what could have happened "if". It's already done, what more is there to say? I am sure she won't have to be in this same situation again, so your advise to her about her "bad decision" isn't necessary.
No, she made sure they would not be back at her place. If I were her neighbor, I'd take greater comfort in them having been caught.

Oh, lFarmin Momma's story about when she had to kick those trespassers off some land at gun-point awhile back ended up in the paper yesterday. Some people don't like it when other people don't think exactly how they do, I guess....?
Does anyone here REALLY think that protecting property is more important than protecting children? Seriously? Please, please, tell me that's not true. I think too well of you all to believe it.

We've added to our flock twice, once with birds from the chicken man in Orting, and a few months later with birds from a friend who lives in Rochester. In both cases the birds were young adult hens and we just turned them loose in the backyard with our existing flock. No problems either fighting or illness, though they took a couple of days to figure out the coop and probably spent the night under the holly tree. One year later they are still all alive and healthy and laying eggs. So to me biosecurity means feeding a healthy GMO-free diet, unlimited time free range in an area that could easily accommodate far more birds than we want to take care of and appropriate shelter.

I guess if I were managing a commercial CAFO filled with immune compromised animals and tiny profit margins thanks to the Walmart economy, I might feel different about it.
my whole comment about CAFO's just rerased when the bandaid I had on my index-finger paper cut- hit a wrong key. Argh.

Let me just suffice to say that we never, buy any commercially-raised ground beef unless labeled organic or grass-fed, and we never eat any pork unless it has global animal welfare rating of 2 or more. You probably already know, but if anyone does not know what a Global Animal Welfare Rating is, you might want to look that up.

If you want a very good read on why we should all be concerned, there is an excellent book out there (maybe I am prejudiced) written by David Kirby, that is an excellent resource, yet reads like a really good suspense novel. (The list of book reviews and positive praise for his work is impressive) :

"Animal Factory: the Looming Threat of Industrial Pig, Dairy and Poultry Farms to Humans and the Enviroment"
website: animalfactorybook dot com

One of the hero activists in his book is Helen Reddout, a 4th generation cherry farmer who lives in Yakima. We organized a few extra talks and invited her to speak with David when he was doing the book release. She's got a compelling story of what happened when a dairy CAFO moved in next door to her. (BTW- there's no laws to protect you should someone decide to open a CAFO next door!).

Check out some of the info and resources on his website?

I just can't beleeeeeve this, my star magnolia decided to begin to open it blooms today in all this wind and cold. It is in a fairly protected spot but I had to time the picture between wind gusts.
Mine isn't quite as far along as yours. I'm in a weird little cold sink. I'm looking forward blooms any day now.

If anything had happened to Sarah's children, it would not have been her fault in the slightest. That's the LIE people tell themselves to take the blame off the true criminals who were looting and stealing from her. There were real, awful criminals there stealing and committing a crime, and if they had run over her child it would have been nothing but THEIR FAULT, not hers. She did what was right in defending herself and her property, and telling her children to go in the house.
