Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

So my gender confused, crowing, silkie laid me another egg today. I wouldn't have thought it was hers if I didn't watch her lay it. So maybe she has been laying sporadically. Her egg is the same shade as one of the other girls.

It was so nice out today. I got some sun and the dogs played in one of the streams.

The chicks were happy there was no wind and mama took them out for bugs and grass.

Adorable Momma and Babies picture!

My little "mixed" bunny, Smudge, kindled last night - 2 days earlier than expected. I think it may have been because she is small and was bred to a large buck, or she has a lot of babies. We usually leave them alone the first 24-36 hours, especially with this doe. She's a fabulous mama; we haven't lost any from her yet. She was bred to a Black Otter Rex, and I'm hoping for a nice girl to replace one that ran away last week. Ungrateful bunny.

The Champagne D'Argent kindled last weekend - she kicked them all out of the nest. We put them back but they were dead on the wire the following morning. It's really a pity; she had ten gorgeous babies.

ohhhhh I love rex!

Einstein comes home tomorrow !!!!!!!!!!!

But that means no sound sleep with his infernal snoring !!!!!!!!!!!

Is that what you kids call it now-a-days?

A few days ago this thing was FULL of buds waiting to blossom into beautiful flowers, now look at it... It's pathetic looking. Where do I cut it? A spray bottle... really? High maintenance plants... It's no wonder lavender is my favorite plant, they're sturdy as a rock, attract good bugs & bees, and smell devine. This whole orchid thing is depressing. ChickAudie, I may just bring it to you... If I kill it, I will be devastated!
I grow both lavender and orchids- and find them about equally easy. Yours looks as if it got hit with cold (sub 40F) air at some point between its original grower and you- I learned early to avoid plants whose bud or flower stems were yellow. I never spray them with water or anything else, and the ones in the window trough have been in that window for four or five years and have sent up bud stems every December for flowers which hold until late April to mid May depending on the number of buds. I also have a Miltonia which is about ten years old and blooms, or tries to a couple of times every year. My worst trouble is that Stewie thinks the buds are asparagus, but I'm not taking a photo until I wash the whole table; flash photography was uncomfortably revelatory.

That's for sure! I kinda shook me up. Not only that but they act narcoleptic! They'll be standing there, preening, then suddenly wilt to the floor as if they just passed out! And they really WILL fall asleep with their face in the waterer! Thank goodness I noticed where someone had posted a picture of using marbles in the waterer to prevent drowning!
They sure are funny. A couple in this current batch have fallen asleep face first in the feeder. When I got the first 6, the waterer I bought was actually meant for quail, but it was with the chick supplies and I didn't know any better. It works out great with the littles, as they can only get their beaks in to get water. Then when they are a little bigger and not constantly falling asleep, I swap it out for the chick waterer which also holds more. The quail one is only meant for a quart sized jar.

Getting my 3 Catdance Silkie chicks in the morning and also 5 meat chicks. Woohoo for chicken math.
PICS! And yeah, um, chicken math hit me too. I have 4 peepers in my kitchen right now. Reber Ranch is WAY too close to my house for me to get through spring unscathed; 2 California Whites (THANKS RON, for recommending them! I can't wait for some white eggs along with the rest of our pretty colors!), 1 Cuckoo Marans, and 1 Red Sex Link. I can justify 4 new ones because 1 died and 2 are going to Flirty 31 next week.

You're going to punch me-- #1, induced for preE no pain meds, 9 hours start to finish. #2, I went to the doctor because I "felt wierd" and was told I was 5 cm and they sent me to the hospital. 2 hours of non stop screaming and I had a baby. I much preferred the 9 hour birth to the two hour one!
I would never actually punch you. I might sit here hating you for a while though.

I do long for more children though. It's a daily desire of my heart for more, and you can bet I'd have them at home too, no matter how long of a labor. It's worth every second when your DH can head to the kitchen afterwards and cook you scrambled eggs and bacon with OJ, and not have to go anywhere or have people all over you afterwards!

Speaking of orchids, I got a neat one for mom at the plant show in Seattle a few years ago. I first saw Dracula bela at UW during a trip to the greenhouse for a biology class. It took a while, but it finally bloomed last year! It looked really cool. Next time it blooms, I'll take some pictures. Mom typically doesn't do too well with orchids outside of Phalaenopsis and the Lady's Slipper assortment, so I was quite pleased that it's still alive and blooming successfully.

YES! And, if anyone is interested - in Tacoma, is The Birthing Inn. They are WONDERFUL! You might as well be at home. I abhor hospitals!!! I have checked myself and baby out early EVERY time. There was no reason for me to stay 48 hours other than to charge my insurance!
