Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I looked down at the bowl in the fridge with six tiny eggs in it and was glad I recorded Dearie's first egg: she's laid six eggs since the 18th, three of them in the past three days. I'm giving them to the tiny kids at the family egg hunt Sunday to be their breakfast eggs.

Eight eggs from eleven chickens today, more and more days when most of the hens lay, it's spring indeed!

To WALady944....

Thanks for Niqui (Dominique). She is at my house with Fluffy (LB) in a bathroom. I'm hoping having two of them at home will get the hubby moving on helping me finish the pen roof so I can get DE and sand in there.

Been a busy weekend for me. Way too many pages to catch up on.

Have a great week everyone.
so glad she is settling in nicely; nothing like having a bathroom full of chicks to get the DH to move on the coop building. We are still in construction mode around here also .But good progress today here with windows in and siding up, roof done. There is hope for my girls! Maybe by next week we will have move in day!

Well it's time for the next installment of my wheaten ameraucanas pictorial growth log. Of the 3 chicks I got from CGG it is speculated by the folks on the Ameraucana thread that 1 is a pullet, 1 is definitely a cockerel, and the third (Honey) is probably a cockerel. But Pips&Peeps suggested waiting a bit longer before deciding about her/him. So that's who I'm starting with... Heeeeeerrrre's Honey... (click to enlarge) If this is a cockerel, why the majorly Fluffy Bunns???? Dot is the pullet, and she is such a sweety pie! I think she looks down right elegant. And this is Dash who is scheduled to go to SarahKatie next month. He's all boy and very smart. Although he looks almost identical to Honey, he's darker and doesn't have fluffy bunns. (click to enlarge)
Beautiful pics! Saving the one of dash for my records :)

Both girls at my home will eat out of my hand and like to cuddle on my shoulder (and hide in my hair if it isn't in a ponytail).

I got probiotics and electrolites in their water to make sure there isn't a stress issue from being moved. The hubby told me that Niqui is on their perch and keeping Fluffy on the floor showing who has higher pecking order.

Thanks for the condolences of loosing my two cream legbar chicks from California. I was heartbroken. Our X handyman saw I was using an empty box which he owned to prop up my chicks close enough to the brooder lamp to stay warm. He couldn't stand the fact I was using HIS box for MY CHICKENS and took the box away without replacing or telling anyone, When I got up and checked my chicks I see them a long ways from the light falling over from the chill. I went ballistic. Last straw. Two died within 15 min of each other and he keeps telling me it wasn't because they got cold. All over a stupid empty box thrown in the corner for the last 6 mo and I wasn't hurting it at all. I have shared everything with this boy/man for the last 3 yrs. and he couldn't share an empty box. End of story. He is moving.

As a side note hubby felt so bad about my loosing the chicks that way and realized how hard it was to get them has allowed me to buy an 1588 Hovabator. It was shipped today. twisting anxiously in my seat. I will need to do a set of test eggs and then I can order more cream legbar eggs he said. So this has brought me back up some and the one female legbar left is a feisty thing. She is head chick in the 13 chicks left. She is a week, They are 3 weeks silkies. Put a grape in there and blam. The baby gets it every time.

LF so sorry for your loss dear. Good luck with your hatch!

Half way done with our coop today, great progress.

Congratulations!

Well we made some great progress on the coop today, we got the flooring raised up on the legs and almost got the footings right (my only job today). Whoops! I'll fix that tomorrow and get the old barn shutters ready to be repurposed as the siding of the coop.

This is the the underside of the flooring (made out of pallets YAY!)...

It got dark quick so I don't have any other pics, but it looks like an oversized bar table right now.

I can't wait to see what other awesomeness we can contribute to this beast of a coop. There was a suggestion to paint it OD green with a white star painted on it and some camouflage cover over the top for the coop tour! But then someone suggested OD green AK jackets for the girls and hand grenades and I had to put my mother hen foot down! lol... No grenades! what the heck!? It was a great day overall though!

I will keep you all posted on the advances.

I hope everyone had a great day...
