Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I can't believe I found this Pottery Barn Kids Jumbo Fun On the Farm Stacker at a garage sale for $10.00. We have a brand new niece who is going to love it. She is growing up on a small farm, and it will fit in perfect with their decor.

Who, on earth, would pay $99.00 for a stacking baby toy?

What a wonderful day.

Mine started by taking my son's last items out of my storage to his apartment.

I then went home and took Fluffy and Niqui outside for an introduction to grass. I have a pen I setup, moved them downstairs in their crate, and then moved them into the pen. They didn't try to fly out as they were going "what the f*#& is this stuff under our feet" and just stood there amazed. Then a few minutes later I saw Niqui starting to peck at the long grass. They stayed close to the side of the pen where I was, so I know they have bonded.

At my storage I found my packing newsprint without printing and brought that home for use in their crate. I decided, since I was tearing the paper outside, to add some grass and dandelion greens in with the paper for them to scratch for once they were back in the bathroom. I will see tonight if they found it. I also took some chick feed and added water. Fluffy kept eating it after eating the pinch of scratch I dropped on top of it. Niqui hadn't figured out it was food when I had to leave for work.

The hubby is so funny. He asked me after the 2nd night of them being in the bathroom, how long they would be in the house. I told him "until the pen is finished" and he said "guess we better get working on it then." What a doh moment. So, the plan is to get some work done on it tomorrow. I think I will bring the chicks out and setup the portable pen near their new pen while I work on digging the 6" down for wirie at the bottom. Should be a great day for all of us.
If you have a shredder why not just run the newsprint through it. Makes it much easier.

Hey all,

I am new to the forum and have only lived in Seattle a bit over a year. Our coop is nearly finished (if they are ever finished) and we hope to get our first chickens this week. Any tips from you north westerners that have been at this a while?

Thanks for making a great site!

I can tell you already (without even seeing it) it is wayyyyyyy to small for what you will want.
Limit your trips to the farm store when chicks are available. (chicken math will kick in and then you are lost, lost I say)
Do not stress over every little thing the chicks do.
If you look into the brooder (if you're getting chicks and one is laying on its side with one wing spread out, it is not dead, it's sleeping but your heart rate will elevate.
And last, but not least;
WELCOME..HAPPY EASTER

Those are pretty colors! So now I've got to dye some with natural colors to show you what cool colors you can get from "organic" ingredients.

For instance, boiling white eggs in a pan of those paper onion skins from yellow onions makes them a maroon color.
Using Chlorella (available in bulk section of Whole Foods), makes them an amazing dark green.
Tumeric makes them bright orangish-yellow.

I've only got one white egg layer right now, so have to BUY eggs (how weird does that feel?) to dye for Easter
Would it work with brown eggs I wonder??? HUMMM maybe the colors would be slightly different darker maybe? We might have to try it.... I told the kids we can dye more eggs this month... My daughter loves egg salad so we boil eggs anyways... Why not have fun with it.... Dying eggs really has nothing to do with Easter anyway right....

No, found her this morning. I got her last egg; it was sitting beside her body. And I have a ton of people wanting on a waiting list for ducklings.

She has been outside all her life and we haven't had a problem.
Oh that is just too sad, why is always the unexpected ones that hurt the most.
