Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

One of my hobbies is saving money, so I like to share coupons with this group when I come across them. So with that, here's the latest Wilco "Chickville" coupon. For me, it's a GREAT one!

  • Did everyone get lost? It's been over an hour since anyone posted.
  • I have the body of a new shirt sewn up - now need some sleeves.

  • Turkey pasta for dinner, with asparagus, mushrooms and Alfredo sauce.

My new sewing machine was cancelled - the manufacturer is discontinuing that particular model, so I had to upgrade. So now it doesn't arrive until next Monday - c r a p m o n k e y s.

Still wondering what's up with my hen. It was just over 3 weeks ago that she did the same thing. Once I can write off as a quirk, twice is really bothering me! This morning when I cleaned the coop I found the remains of the shell-less egg I obviously didn't see yesterday.

So it starts with that, the shell-less or nearly no shell egg, sluggishness, puffed out feathers, little or no interest in treats.

So I bring her inside and eventually she perks up again.
This time I bathed her to clean her under-carriage but I can see now I left about 10% of the white stuff.
I didn't see lice and had DH look too. The white that's still on her feathers looks much more like dried urates or albumen than lice eggs. It's not clumped at the base of the feathers and not at all grainy. Much more like "spackle".

She seems fine now, but this is becoming a pattern.

Last time I dusted her with Sevin, this time I applied Eprinex.
Her comb seems very warm.
Comb is read and straight, not limp
Eyes and nose appear fine
Can't find any injuries.
Poop looked normal yesterday when she finally got around to it (waited over 2 hours when she was in the house)
She finally ate yogurt with chick starter mixed in after she was in the house for 2 hours.

Still trying to find out how warm her comb should be.
Wondering if shell-less eggs are related to lice, mites, etc. She gets shell as well as layer feed. Her egg shells are usually fine.

Any other ideas???

Hmm ...

Is the Chick Starter medicated? If Yes - well then maybe she has cocci?

No -

What is in the Yogurt and chick starter that is not in the layer pellet? Or, what does the house provide that the outside does not.

Maybe she's stressed by the other birds, and you bringing her in the house lets her dump the stress?

/shrug

Oh, well, that was a whole lot of no fun at all, working cattle on a windy day is always tricky and the other skinny/low status cow died yesterday and we did a necropsy in the field to see if we could figure out anything (nope) so they were all stressed and whacky.

Still have to go do chicken and sheep chores, and I am so very not inclined to get out of this chair again.

Saw a yellow-rumped warbler today, though, that was cool.

We have a wheel chair, remember ?
If you ever 'do' something that requires alot of walking or standing, it comes in very handy...you can sit & elevate the Owie leg !

Thank you! When I go to the docs tomorrow I am going to see if they have one that I can check out (like a library book) or rent. If that doesn't work out then I may be giving you a call! :D

I'm happy! Just got another S hook from the hardware store to hang the 2nd bucket nipple waterer. I hung it low for the babies out there and they all love it. Now I have 4 gallons of water available to them in the chicken run at any given time, and 6 nipples in 2 buckets for what will end up being 16 birds. I hope were finished needing to buy stuff for now.

Surprised...my 20 day old chicks were off heat for over 9 hours today in the house. My house is at 68 degrees and they were fine for 7 hours straight without the lamp, then another 2 hours later this evening! That's great! Heat lamps cost a darn fortune to run! My goal is to have them off daytime heat entirely by 4 weeks, and out of my darn house making a dusty filthy mess by 5 weeks with only heat at night out there too.
