Oh no! I just stumbled on a CL post from oregon city thats offering chicks for $2 because they had a big hatch and need to clear them out..... I'm so tempted! They have every one that I want!!

I have one hog not spoken for that will be harvested this weekend. I have listed it with my customers, but if it is not sold by saturday morning I will make a great deal on it for someone on here. pm if interested.

I am driving from snohomish to battle ground tomorrow. if anyone needs anything transported let me know.

Here is the response from sending a message to the city of yelm site about raising back yard chickens. It's also very upsetting that a few complaints can change the laws so much. I suggest complaining about not being able to raise chickens.
The e-mail sent back to me was from animal control.
"The City has received complaints about citizens raising chickens for food. Our response has been that as an urban area only pet animals are allowed. See 6.08.010 of the YMC and 6.08.30 definitions for pet animal defined. Thanks

Kate - what did you seed your pasture with? I saw some seed on amazon (I think) that was "chicken pasture" seed.

We had some "pasture seed" from a friend who is a landscaper/home farmer. It isn't just grass; it's got all the other stuff in it. Cost a bit more but we figured it was the right kind. It's just beginning to sprout now.

I pomised i'd post the response i got. I'm upset about what I was told. I don't live in yelm and now I NEVER will because of it. This just tells me where ever I move to do my research first so I can keep my chickens.
A few months ago I checked their laws and saw NOTHING about not owning chickens. And pet only to me doesn't mean you can't own them but apparently that does. I butcher my chickens but not here because I'm in the city of tacoma and I know people would complain. I go to my moms to butcher roosters when they are large enough. I can't own roosters though.

It just really sucks that they would make a law making it harder to have fresh healthy eggs to eat. And chickens do so much good (eating bugs, fertilizer) If I lived in yelm I'd be organizing a protest. If I lived closer to Yelm I'd help them protest.
