Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I haven't built my chicken run yet (duck of shame

) and it is a TERRIBLE thing because my run ideas keep evolving! Now I'm thinking there needs to be a fort tower at the run entrance, and a massive gate.....

By the time I am done, these chickens are going to have a draw bridge, surrounded by a mote of man-eating sharks with laser beams.
You do not live by the KISS idea then? Keep It Simple Silly? Yours will be a piece of art when through. I am beginning to think chickens are ungrateful little creatures. You build and decorate their little homes so nice and they would prefer to lay in a bush in the woods. Have to go look for their new hiding spot. 1 egg from 4 hens in 3 days. Easter Egg hunt. Those darn EE chickens. You are not supposed to hide them.

DANG.... DH just found a nasty ol' racoon in the back yard! It's DAYtime, not a good sign. He shot at him but missed! I'm sure he'll be back. Gotta keep a close eye on my littles since their pen isn't as secure as the big girls. DANG!

Raccoon in your yard? Your pretty citified. I am surprised. You better get that hawk that tried to get you to work on the raccoons. I have a live trap if you need to borrow it.

LOL my EE Eagle does the same dang thing. We just built a temp run for them so the kids could play on their slide without chicken poo all over it... Well Eagle flies out n goes n lays her eggs in the outdoor bunny cage then she goes back in the run... Found 11 eggs yesterday in there when I was putting the bunny out there!

Hello all, new to this forum - and new to raising chickens. I've got six 2-1/2 month olds. All different breeds. Anyone else in the Maple Valley area? I've got an almost 2 yr old daughter that I'm always looking for playmates for!

THAT WOULD BE SOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!! Please everyone help me. I really really really really want chickens and if this takes too long I might have to wait till next year to get some :( I don't understand either, why can't we have them, I was told the noise factor. Well in my neighborhood, almost everyone here has 2 or more dogs, and all day and all night all you hear is dogs barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking...................................................... :/ the chickens would make less noise, and ontop of that, our neighbor has a rabbit. Those according to the "code" are also classified as livestock and supposidly NOT allowed, and you can even see their rabbit from the road, as their back porch is on the second floor. So I will be emailing the mayor too and have my husband do it and anyone else that would like to help PLEASE message the Yelm Wa. mayor about letting chickens in the backyard!! Thank you all so much for the help, still nothing back from the officer, he's waiting on someone else that knows the code better to get back to him. Sounds like a bunch of whooy to me!

Your daughter is adorable, and your chicks are purdy cute themselves!

Yeah, I gave them Paul's wonderful food and they COMPLETELY IGNORED IT after the first day. They spread out in the pen, looking for anything edible when there was a tray of nice food in the middle. I tried putting them right next to the tray. They ran off as soon as I took my hands off them. I had to go to town to get them a bag of feed store crumble. They were so happy when I put that down.
