i would love to see this, how long will it play? Have been very busy and behind on the forum due to a new job and getting ready for my wedding in May.

What? Wedding? May? Wow, Congratulations!!!! That makes two upcoming weddings in this group. Big wedding or small? Honeymoon plans.....? Little pink chicks as take home gifts?

Hi Everyone. I may need some advice. I have a coop that sits about 3ft above the run. My girls access their run by going through a guillotine door that I open every morning, to a 1ft square flooring then down the chicken ladder to the run. (I hope I described that well enough) My girls are good coming upstairs for night, but DO NOT go into coop at night on their own. They settle down right outside that guillotine door all clumped on top of each other. I have to move them a few inches each inside the door so I can close the door (I like to keep things secure). For the past month, I have sprinkled scratch in coop and they went in there briskly and I would shut the guillotine door. However, left to theirselves they just don't take that final step. My question is, should I make that little 1 foot area inhospitable to them hanging out there, or just wait for them to get too big to pile on top of each other and go into the coop? (They are about 10 weeks old). I do believe chickens know more about being chickens than I do, but I just wish they would get to their roosting bar so I can lock them in at night whether I am there at 7:30 or 8:30pm. No, they are not roosting, they seem to be content still sleeping piled on top of each other - there are just 4 of them. Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance.

robJ; I put her over on that side but made the mistake of leaving access to it for the other gals. She wasn't bothered by them, but went to the nestboxes. So tomorrow, she will get moved to the isolation room (LOL) after I clear out all the "stuff".
I'll put lip around the area under the feed shelf and fill it with straw, give her food and water and she what she does.
I'm not to the irritated state yet, after all she's a very young bird and probably a little confused.
She is very docile when I handle her though. At first she growled and tried to bite. I had leather gloves on (always, otherwise I'd lose chunks of flesh if bit) so I just let her get all the biting out of her system while talking to her. She hasn't tried again, so I guess I did something right?

Ok peeps I am finally home and (kind of) settled for the night. What s weekend!! Sales weren't too good. I did get to see several of ya. For anybody who came by and heard my near lack of voice..... Well yesterday was good by mid day today. I am able to make squeaks and that's about it. Now I also have a cough and stuffed up nose.

As for the show I had a good time. Except some how ended up coming home with 2 Salmon Fav pullets. Cool thing they are POL and we got a very first egg yesterday at the show and when we got home I found another egg in the crate. I also ended up with 10 chicks following me home. 2 BLRB, 2 ??, 1 CCL, 2 OE, 2 BCM and 1 Am x Orp.

I hope nobody gets this crud from me. It is not looking like this is gonna be fun. There were a couple others at the show who started to come down with similar.

You've gotta a nice collection of birds. Hope you kick the crud Quick and feel well soon!!

So thank you again ladies for attending yesterday and having dinner with my mom, sister and I. It's always so much fun to visit with other WA BYCer's and good to see all of you again!

I was happy to learn today that only 3 of my big girls are meanies to the tiny babies. I let the 8 4.5 week olds out of the brooder for a couple hours and a few times they wandered away from my immediate reach. Well my Australorp was SUCH a sweetheart to the babies and she's never even been broody. She was pecking around them and they kept sneaking under her and jumping ON her and she just stood around chittering with them, super cute! My EEs were all ambivalent, as was Princess. Lucy the broody came out at one point and ignored them too. BUT, my nasty, mean, bisexual, territorial, tiny-mutant Buff Orpington wasn't having ANY of those chicks. Every time one wandered off, she marched up and gave it a good hard peck. It was mean My Welsummer and RIR were also mean and chased the babies out of jealousy. It's nice to know they're not all mean and some were even motherly to the brooder raised babies. Sweet!

When they are first learning what to do I put a small light inside the coop where I want them to go. They will go towards the light as they can't see well in the dark. After several months they get it down pat. I use a night light

You could give this a try.

Gee... those wheatens are Super light aren't they?   I wonder what their parents look like.  Thanks for posting these and the story about macho little Dash.  He was a little on the shy side with his siblings.  He must have been watching and thinking about what he was going to do when he got his own harem!  Can't wait to see how he feathers out as an adult. 

Yeah.... I am still researching that but they sure are pretty ;-) the feathers are all one color and so light it gives the illusion you are touching a cloud.....

On a good note, EVERYONE is included in the chick pile tonight.... Last night they were separated into two piles, tonight it is just one big group :-D

I also think out of the two pullets I got from CCG'S, one is wheaten and one is blue wheaten, she said it might turn out that way ;-) .... It will be interesting to see as the grow up....
