Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello wanted to come by and introduce myself. I'm in Central Point, WA (by Montesano) and am new to chickens. I just got me 7 little buff Orpington girls and would love to find them a rooster. I also have my first batch of duck eggs in the incubator due to hatch end of this week, I'm a nervous wreck waiting.

Happy Tuesday peeps!

Ran into FWJ at Reber ranch yesterday. I'm pretty sure they have a sleeping bag and cot for her there someplace:lau
ChickAudie's pollo chateau looks very adorable.  :love

Off to run errands!

LOL!!!  Oh, that's too, funny.  Jess, is this true?? :gig

Awe, Thanks RainMom!!  You have a Wonderful Happy Tuesday as well!!

I will neither confirm nor deny those allegations, or any related accusations related to the disappearance of Reber's free popcorn in fast order upon our arrival, addiction to new chick arrivals, buying unneeded feed and/or supplies just for an excuse to visit, or any future allegations thereby. ;)

Actually, my sister and her husband are the primary farmers; I'm old and clumsy and slow these days, and a brittle insulin dependent diabetic to boot. I haven't even visited the bigger part of the operation for years- I don't drive, and I have to have actual need to go down there (and taking photos of wildflowers doesn't count) before I can thumb a ride. From 1999 until the Nephew was old enough to be around when people were working cattle, I was the designated babysitter; now, neither my husband nor myself are dependable enough for the long day of vaccinating the other 80% of the herd.

The other family (my cousin and his wife) on the title of the Old Place contributes a tractor and occassional cattle-handling help. My BIL's sister is half-owner of the larger part of the place- like most multigeneration farms around here, there's a complicated, sort of Feudal Modern pattern of land ownership and employment. Three married couples have part ownership in undivided interest in The Old Place, my sister and her husband own the house that was my parents' and twenty acres of pasture and timber outright, and my husband and I own an adjacent ten acres of pasture and timber, while the In-Law's place is of unknown much larger size and in undivided ownership between the two of them. Of the eight adults living on the place, my husband and my BIL's sister work for the state, my cousin is part of a family general contracting business, his wife is a grocery store shift manager, and his mother-in-law is a retired teacher. I had a part-time work-at-home gig for years, my sister has never worked off the place, and her husband was a professional multi-certified mechanic before The Nephew was born.

We've been in a constant state of not enough people and too many chores for quite a while.

Well, that doesn't sound too bad! You're in Lacy? I need to get some experience one of these days working around big animals. DFH has a livestock background - me, just potatoes, lol! Maybe one of these days you have a big chore, I should see if we can get a sitter!
Seen the Boston Bombers Mommie on the news ?
Boy is she a nutcase...insisting her sons were innocent & declaring she wants to JOIN them.....this after the kid admitted to the whole thing...sheeeeeeeeesh, the middle east is some booby-hatchery...why do we ...oh never mind....

Ahhh, see, I don't watch the news because I don't ask for their opinions, but boy! do they like to give them. I think it's a set-up and whole-heartedly agree with the mother and the aunt. I think it's a ploy to get people afraid and to get them to band together with a single haterid - Muslims. I don't like that. I don't like that there is so many inconsistancies with the reports and the police scanners, I don't like there was no warrant, I don't like there were no Maranda Rights read, and I don't like there is a guy, a "carpenter" (in uniform...hmmm) in servalience footage with the SAME backback the bomb was in and then photos of him running away BEFORE the bomb went off and the photos after the explosion...no backpack, but he made it a safe distance.

I believe Special Services def had something to do with this one. But, I must be crazy because I don't watch the "news".

I had to come back on line, had an egg order last week which the lady was a no show (or I should say a no pay) so I had an omelette
So was shipping to her again today, and once again she is a no show (no pay) once more we have a big expensive omelette.............................
he.gif

That's over $60 worth of rare eggs...................so no more for her.
Moving right along...I am going back out to paint.
Looking at the tallest point of the barn & trying to figure out HOW we are going to get up there to paint,
and I spied a paper wasp nest about the size of a Granny Smith..waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up there.

OK...we can open the upstairs window, lean out & spray the thing !

Noticed a little while ago the yard is FULL of swallows.diving & swirling & eating bugs...YIPPEE for swallows !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's sounds like an entirely not fun morning!!

Good luck with a clean getaway with the wasps!

I managed to actually sell all 4 of my young roosters to a buyer that wanted them for their hens!!

My roos seldom have such good fortune!!
4 less mouths to feed = lots of new baby chick space!!!!!

and for me it's on to attempt to win the battle with the standard size apple trees

Since this is only my second kidding, I'm not sure: BUT I think the goat has dropped and is ready - she looks fit to bust. I reckon there's at least two in her - she can barely move around her belly and udder is so big. Worst part is, we will be gone a lot this weekend and the kid looking after them doesn't know much. Oh well, goats have been doing it for thousands of years, guess she can manage it on her own.

Then we have another one, almost as big, due late next week!

LOTS OF TASTY MEALS THIS WINTER. We had goat shanks with sauce and root vegetables over rice the other night. It was downright wonderful.

And, we have two rabbits with babies, and one ready to kindle, and one ready for breeding. The larder will be full.

What?  Wedding?   May?   Wow, Congratulations!!!!   That makes two upcoming weddings in this group.  Big wedding or small?  Honeymoon plans.....?   Little pink chicks as take home gifts?  :D

:woot

Haha!! That's awesome Lutefisk! May is earlier than mine, I'm gettin' hitched in July...in fact, I temporarily changed the name of this group to Washingtonians - Help ChickAudie Plan a Wedding!, but I realized that's what maids of honor are for :lau

Oh, Carolyn!!  I think that's a perfect wedding favor!!! Too, bad my people would be like, "Awe, cute chick, thanks for the wedding favor - oh by the way, I got you this chick for your wedding - CONGRATS!"

Thanks, and congratulations to Chickaudie too!! We're excited... Even though we have been "living in sin" together for 17 years, it is good to finally be legal. We were just going to quietly get a marriage license and have a friend who is an ordained minister do the honors but our friends wouldn't have it, now it's blown up into a huge party and we had to rent the grange hall. There's no way our septic system will handle that many people  no honeymoon but I put in for vacation the day after in case I'm hungover :p

Hello, I am in Olympia, specifically the Steamboat Island neighborhood. I have 6 Rhode Island Reds so far, 5 hens and 1 rooster. We are going to see how this goes and hopefully get more, we made a huge run for them and hope to fill it up someday. One of these days I'm hoping to get a couple pigs, I need to find out if they can co-exist with chickens or if I have to keep them separate, that was the idea of the huge run, to have an open barn yard type setting. Have fun with your hatchlings and good luck!

I wish I could go, but lately my free time is taken up by cleaning up after Ruby: this morning it was a number 2 emergency before breakfast.

The reference to "McMenamin's Spar" in Lutefisk's post makes me sad; we've stopped going to the Spar now that it's been McMenimensized, even though we've happily eaten at the ones on Oregon City and West Linn since they opened. They've taken our favorite items off the menu and the local color is totally gone. Better The Olympia Oyster House or King Solomon's Reef.
have you tried the Fish? That's where we usually go after work. Fishtale brew pub, that is.
