Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hey Ren -- there is an old steam train you can take from -- Elba, I think it is -- close to Morton. Really nifty old ride, great view of Rainier when the weather is nice.

Thanks! I'll tell my husband about it. My son would absolutely love that. We've gone on the Christmas train in North Bend, and when he was two, we rode with Thomas the Tank Engine. We're always on the lookout for new trains to ride. We've heard there's supposed to be a train museum in Oregon where they have miniature trains - we've been talking about seeing if we can find it and go down there sometime, too.

I think that museum is one exit north of the Keizer exit just north of Salem.

More chick pics... 2 Weeks, 4 days old:

Rocha, in back. Cocoa, in front. Cocoa is the one who pecks me every time I reach in. Cocoa's comb is turning red. Am I wrong in believing Cocoa is a boy?

Blackie...

You can see how small Latte is compared to the others in this pic. Cocoa's not in the picture - and he's the biggest. All four hatched the same day.
Left side: Blackie: Top right: Latte; Bottom right: Rocha

Another size comparison pic.

Top Left: Latte; Top Right: Blackie; Middle Left: Rocha; Bottom Right: Cocoa

HMM. keep an eye on Blackie, looks like 3 rows on the comb and slow feathering. Hope for a girl though

I believe that there is a steam train that runs from North Vancouver BC up to the town of Squamish BC. We rode the train about 20 years ago with our two kids. It would have been more fun if my DS hadn't had chicken pox break out just as we were getting on the train. I believe though that the train is still running up in BC. It was a nice weekend otherwise. I found the link, it is still running. http://www.wcra.org/

Cool! Thanks for the link!

Ok, I get that, but, we drive the freeways here, so it's not a city thing?? I'm sorry I'm not trying to be complicated I just had never thought about calling a city for that kind of information, I'll call the county sheriff and see what he says, thanks! I mean most of the time I want to call for something it's cause I see some one on the freeway doing something stupid.

Sorry. You're right. Freeways would probably be a county thing.

ETA: or a State Patrol thing...

Now I really want to see how you do it! My city prohibits slaughtering your own chickens (which is stupid) so I'd love to learn a method that I could do quietly. I've got a small area in my yard that can't be seen by any of the neighbors, even though it's maybe 15 feet from another house.

Jennifer

So does mine - on land smaller than 1 acre.

3 rows are a boy thing? Oh no. It does look very much like 3 rows. I thought maybe it was a rose comb. Honestly, the sooner we know with Blackie, the better. Blackie has been adopted by my youngest son, and he does not take disappointment well at all. If Blackie turns out to be a boy, I'm going to have to do some serious prepping with the little guy to get him to cope with that. He has autism, and handling disappointment is a very difficult thing for him.

I've been wondering what I would do if Blackie did turn out to be a boy. I'll probably have to try and find a local farm who could take him so my little guy could go visit. I was thinking I'd ask our niece to take him, since she raises chickens on her farm - but I don't know if they want/have roos or not.

Both Blackie and Latte are feathering much slower than Cocoa and Rocha. Is that another boy thing?
