You have to try the pumpkin loaf cake on the back of the Pamela's Baking Mix bag...it is awesome.
Fantatstic with coffee in the morning.
It makes a bread loaf sized pumpkin spice cake & has a crunchy brown sugar-nut topping.

We try hard to tell the kids about everything and where it comes from. We don't hold back. At.all. If they want to know where babies come from, we tell them point blank. There's no storks here. If they want to know what they're eating, we tell them exactly. If they want to see how an animal is killed and processed, we show them. I figure if all this stuff is normal to them as kids, there won't be much to shock them later, and I want them to be healthy and know what they're putting in their bodies too, as well as eat animals that have been raised humanely. I tell them point blank in the grocery store that we don't buy those eggs because they are from abused chickens. We get some looks and even some questions in the store from people who have overheard our conversations. I'm glad to have an open dialogue with the kids about everything; then nothing will be taboo later.
I think that is absolutely awesome!! We've tried to do the same with our daughter. I even had her watch a few videos on humane killing of chickens since I knew we would have to face that.

Yeah, I watched an interesting set of videos that were made by a local homesteading group on how to slaughter and process a chicken. The woman sat with the hen on her lap, neck stretched down and held firmly, and cut the jugular with a sharp knife. She then had to hold the bird while it bled out, and there still was some splattering. Do you use cones?

I still remember my uncle using a hatchet and tree stump to slaughter roosters when I was a kid. That was messy. I'm not afraid of getting bloody, although it's been a while.

I watched that same video, I'd bet!!!! That is the method I used to do the mercy killing of my hen who became egg bound.

As for the nasty little dogs. They are Yorkies. I do love my puppies, but then there are the moments when they drive me crazy. It is a lot like living with a large group of toddlers, that will never grow out of the naughty stage. I am looking forward to getting the last three pups homes of their own. It hasn't been easy to have this many male dogs in one house. It seems that they are always hiking the their legs, while trying to out mark the other dogs.

While I do have waterproof floors now, I am still not happy with having to clean up after them over and over again. I have taken to keeping them in their crates when I have to leave the house, and at night. I still need to try the belly band idea. In order to do that I need to dig out my sewing room. I just can't seem to want to sew while things are in a mess. There are still things in the room that came from the kitchen remodel, so I need to find a different place to put that stuff.

As for the greenhouse; I agree that I am also envious of it. I really hope that CCG gets a lot of use out it.
I ran out the door so fast that I must have just shut the door behind me cause I looked back to see if they were there and they were in the house barking. But I had my gun so I did not go back to get them. We have had so many people go into the front house, my kids were riding their bikes up and down our driveway into the street (we live on a dead end road) and they all came running in the house yelling that some guy was in the front house. We let both the dogs out and they knew right where to go, these dogs run so fast that the were out there in a heart beat. When we got out there they had the guy cornered against the side of the house and he was scared out of his mind and freeking out. I called the dogs off and he fave all his excueses and then I threatend to give the dog an ok to get him and he appoligized and said he was wrong and would never come back here again! I love my dogs.
I really like Yorkies, I would love one but have found through trial and error that I am just a BIG dog person. Sorry that some of the homes have fallen through for them.

I am very impressed with your dogs. It's nice that they can do what needs to done at the right time. Their behavior is very similar to Komondork. They will let you in, but they won't let you out, until mom or dad tells them to let them go.

I am coming to the realization that I too am a big dog person. I am so tired of trying to get the Yorkies potty trained. I have never had this much problem with any of our big dogs. We both miss having a Komondor around. The Jetski is a very good dog, but he isn't a livestock Guardian. So if I can get this batch homes of their own in the next few weeks. I may start to look for another Kom.

I did promise to have one more litter of puppies, but that is planned for next summer. It is so much easier to house train Yorkie puppies in the summer time. I am going to use a stud, whose owner contacted me last year. She wants a puppy that will be related to her little boy.

We should do that! That would be fun. Is there an actual steam train? I didn't think there were very many steamers any more.
Yes the train runs during the summer and also "SPECIAL EVENTS" Also call Bill's Hydraulics's in Chehalis. He has a lot of cool smaller locomotives in his shop AND he can tell you nearly any/all steam trains in the country.
