Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

That truly infuriates me!

If you are allowed to have hens in a city where most lots are under 1/2-1/4 acre, I think you should be allowed hens ANYWHERE as long as they have the recommended (or more) space per bird .

It seems that the 68 sq. inches (the size of a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper) that are allowed commercial chickens, 24/7 lighting, chemical laced feed and never to be outside and see the sun or feel the rain is a better way to keep chickens.

Not according to my hens! LOL...They have guilt-tripped me into letting them out of their 40sqf per bird yard into the 10 acre cow pasture so they can be free range chickens, or is it pasture ranged? Didn't think chickens had sad puppy dog eyes, but mine sure do! Then again mybe it's just me guilt-tripping myself! LOL

Oh no....They may not have the most expressive faces, but they convey their message loud and clear! Mine yell at me to let them out if I walk by the coop too many times without giving treats or actually letting them out. Lol! And yes, maybe we are guilt tripping ourselves a little too.

I'm glad it's not just me!

I feel so bad when I go out there with nothing to give them. They see me and all come running and peeping. Then stand there staring at me. I can almost hear them "what'd you bring us, HUH, HUH, HUH? Are you gonna feed us or what!" I'm so glad I have these characters around, I enjoy their company.

I wish my chickens could sit still for five seconds at a time so that I could take pictures of them. Those punks make it so difficult for me to get decent shots!

If anyone is in need of a wire dog crate Petco is having a sale! I got a 48"Lx30"Wx32"H single door crate for $69.99 marked down from $139.99 and free shipping! I'm thinking of adding some Salmon Faverolls to my flock in the spring and will be using this as a brooder with a few modifications. I had checked Craigslist before ordering and this was still the best deal I found.
IS IT SPRING YET?!

A little cardboard around the bottom and they're great for indoor brooding. They're good for injured birds. They can safely be with their flock. It is good for time outs, too. Not that I would know about the latter. Right now, I'm using mine as a run on the outdoor brooder. They can be used to transport birds, too. I don't know what I'd do without mine (which isn't even mine. I borrowed it from my niece and never gave it back

This photo reminds me: one of the most useful items in the home and yard is a good collection of old bricks (I got about a quarter of the chimney at the home of The Rose That Ate Madison Valley when the earthquate destroyed it, besides what's left of the cruddy home-fired ones that were the chimney of the homestead cabin here). They weight things down, prop things up, hold things together temporarily and are heavy enough to do it well while still being light enough for me to move.

Bricks and pavers are great things to have lying around.

Except for the tripping over them part.

I am 100% guaranteed not to be getting anything much done today; I had to move the alfalfa pellets from where Anna put them out of the weather when we were all in a hurry Wednesday night into the feed can, then put the feed can where it belongs, and put the sheep out to graze, and then I had to come in and rest and eat.

I should, however, go grab a bucket of potting soil and replant a mini rose which is fighting it out with a columbine: in any contest in a container, the columbine WILL win. I'm just sincerly unenthused for that sort of goings-on.

Hey all! Wowza, we're so busy lately I just hate it! I know, I know. Life doesn't ever really slow down, but that's hard on me. I like to relax. Maybe when my kids all move out I can relax.

Of course, I'll also be old and depressed once they're gone, so there's some tradeoffs huh?

Went to my sister's last night to visit with my parents, and we're heading back there in about 2 hours. Will be there from 3-....? I'm so glad they're visiting, I never realize how much I truly miss them until they visit and we all have such a good time. I'm glad we have a nice basement that could house parents later on in life
