That truly infuriates me!If you are allowed to have hens in a city where most lots are under 1/2-1/4 acre, I think you should be allowed hens ANYWHERE as long as they have the recommended (or more) space per bird .

Oh no....They may not have the most expressive faces, but they convey their message loud and clear! Mine yell at me to let them out if I walk by the coop too many times without giving treats or actually letting them out. Lol! And yes, maybe we are guilt tripping ourselves a little too.
I'm glad it's not just me!I feel so bad when I go out there with nothing to give them. They see me and all come running and peeping. Then stand there staring at me. I can almost hear them "what'd you bring us, HUH, HUH, HUH? Are you gonna feed us or what!" I'm so glad I have these characters around, I enjoy their company.
A little cardboard around the bottom and they're great for indoor brooding. They're good for injured birds. They can safely be with their flock. It is good for time outs, too. Not that I would know about the latter. Right now, I'm using mine as a run on the outdoor brooder. They can be used to transport birds, too. I don't know what I'd do without mine (which isn't even mine. I borrowed it from my niece and never gave it backIf anyone is in need of a wire dog crate Petco is having a sale! I'm thinking of adding some Salmon Faverolls to my flock in the spring and will be using this as a brooder with a few modifications. This photo reminds me: one of the most useful items in the home and yard is a good collection of old bricks (I got about a quarter of the chimney at the home of The Rose That Ate Madison Valley when the earthquate destroyed it, besides what's left of the cruddy home-fired ones that were the chimney of the homestead cabin here). They weight things down, prop things up, hold things together temporarily and are heavy enough to do it well while still being light enough for me to move.
Bricks and pavers are great things to have lying around.
