The White boy is a second gen mix, he has a straight comb and too many hard feathers and has squirrel tail. Correct on the Splash. The Black could be a very dark Blue possibly(wouldn't know for sure unless you put it under a Blue boy). And the other two look like Buffs with a lot of "smutt" or poor colored Partridge. I am breeding BBS and have a Buff and a Porcelain. Have done much research and VERY active on the Silkie Breeding and Genetics thread. These are my opinions on the colors(prolly not show quality) but they make great pets and awesome brooders, even the cocks. Enjoy them. We love ours and it will be hard when we start selling them next year(gotta build up my breeding stock)
thats a first... I will have to make sure and tell my dog and my friends dogs to stop being calm when they wear their shirts during a storm, as they do nothing for them. and last time I bred any dogs they were not mounted by the ribs and chest... Thunder shirts do work for many dogs, you can even just use your own t shirt, the concept is the same as swaddling a baby. for some its a secure feeling.
I agree.....My Border Collies wear thundershirts.....Nan used to try to break thru the plate glass window in fear. Now she sleeps next to me with her Tshirt on.....works on all of my dogs and I loved it so much I became a dealer....they back their products. Fourth of July with the fireworks, it has helped them a lot as the neighbors love to lite of M80 etc.....you have to make sure it is TIGHT.....
Quote: From what I could tell, it is blue. Very pretty and bright inquisitive eyes. Hard not to disturb Arbuckle for a better look and pics though.
I have Silver Spangled Large Fowl; I'm going to need another rooster soon, and so far the one which was at Vancouver was not according to breed type on posture, comb, body markings, or hackle/saddle feathering; had a nice clear white tail with strong spots, unlike my boy's smudged one, but my current cock is much better on other matters.
I know that there's a reputation for "flightiness" that comes with this breed, but mine don't seem to fill that, and I can't understand why such a striking and productive bird has fallen out of favor in the Large Fowl size.
(I'm posting this to go ruffle through my photos for a pic of Elvis: I do not trust this platform not to dump a post, otherwise).
He was the only one there right? I remember him. I too have always been wondering why the hamburg has fallen out of favor. I used to have Golden Pencilled Hamburg and was forced out of them due to life circumstances but they were very productive and all the patterned varieties are eye catching. Maybe it's just that white eggs have fallen out of favor and Hamburgs aren't big enough to be dual purpose fowl? Anyway, triple luck hatching goes well. Love seeing Hamburgs being raised and shown.
Thank you to whomever it was that suggested I turn off the turner for another couple days for my shipped eggs. I did let them rest before I put them in but obviously not long enough. turner has been off past three days or so and recandled a few since I was in there anyway, still some weird shapes and bigger than expected on some but no more jiggly air cell.
Second batch of shipped eggs will be ready to candle Friday and they haven't been turned yet so I will report on them then.
I'll add my thumbs up on silkie roosters being very good with chicks. The two I have are awesome boys and earn their feed.
