Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

And now I have an egg eater in the BLRW pen. Somehow I suspect the rooster who may never have been with laying hens before more than the two, two year old hens who've never broken an egg.

Well there were 6 laying hens here with him. I've never had any these guys eat eggs but that doesn't mean it can't be him

Well, there goes that theory. I have to build a nest box tomorrow (both of these were laid in the coop, in a scrape down to the hard floor, which made breaking them easier). That assumes I can get out of bed, since favoring the knee that went bad today has now resulted in my lower back not working.

Which I found out when I went in to check on the chicks at my bedtime and found that one bunch had managed to empty their water into their bedding: reaching in, in a way that didn't twist my knee was a bad thing for my lumbar region. It's been a grand day all around, today. Or week, to be perfectly honest, what with the rain and the peach tree falling on everything.

and the good news is rumor does have it, the sun WILL come out tomorrow! Hope you get some good healing rest tonight!

Lots of photos of the chicks at 2.5 weeks. Photo overload!

Here they are learning to roost, they love this corner!

Hanging out with mom

Starting to get chilly, time to duck under

The EE chicks always seem to go under first, I wonder if the d'Uccle chicks stay warmer with all those feet & leg feathers?

The gate to the little pen is open now, mama takes them wherever she wants to

Love those little feathered legs!

Bantams are super adorable!

Finally, here is my darling Frodo, her head healed nicely from the winter's hawk attack.

OK, Paradox, let's make it NOON on this Sunday at the Lake Forest Park Third Place Books Commons.
(We try to meet there every couple months. There's a core group of - I don't know 10, 12 of us maybe? It will be nice to meet you.)

Again, I really encourage new people to come. We usually have some sort of chicken related item or a sign on the table so the new people can spot us. Either that or look for remnants of chicken poo on our shoes ;)

Thank goodness I'm not the only one! It seems to jump on me somewhere no matter how careful I am!

Thanks for the kind hope; wish it had worked out that way but mostly last night I tried to find a place to lay where I wasn't making something feel worse. Should just take some ibuprofen (which makes me sleepy) and go back to bed, but we have to go shopping before my husband leaves for work and I have to tend the chicks before I can do that...

More coffee!:caf
