If anyone is interested, the state is looking for volunteers for (free) avian flu testing. Not everyone qualifies, it is largely dependent on your location.

I wish I qualified.

I do except for the "multiple fowl species" unless the wild quail and grazing geese count: I'm on the Puget Sound part of the Pacific Flyway and close to the Nisqually NWR and also Woodard Bay WRA.

Ok. My DH wants the evil broody hen gone. She killed and ate her newly hatched chick this morning and may have eaten one of the eggs a few days ago.

She's 39 weeks old, 1/4 silkie - 3/4 EE, and lays a medium green egg. She gets along fine with the adult birds and hasn't bothered any of the chicks raised by other birds. She does bite when broody. She is not super friendly, but I'd never had any issues with her.

If someone would like her as a layer, she is free. I would even include her sister who is the same age as they are friends.

Anyone interested in three 6-7 week old silkies? I'm pretty sure they are cockerels but you know how it goes with this breed lol Dad was a Catdance silkie buff and mother was a porcelain. They all look like this one. No roosters in Tacoma. I don't want to risk that first crow & I have too many chicks! Lol

I am planning to buy some pullets for pets and the ones I found have not been handled much, is that a bad idea for pets?
I bought my first 3 around 4months old and they had never been held~once they started to lay the became cuddly. The trick to turn them into pets is to give them treats! :)
