Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Are you all sufficiently impressed that I finally got a new password so I can join you again? My computer is still an annoying piece of junk. The screen display randomly shrinks to just 12% multiple times an hour and each time I have to force shut-down and it loses all my passwords that usually fill in automatically, so I am rarely on the beast anymore.

I just joined and wanted to say HI!! I live in Kitsap county and want to get chicks soon. anyone know some good places to purchase some? I only want 4-5 total and would love to get some different breeds

Hi from Oregon. I hang out here and post with these nice folks. There should be several here on the thread that should be able to point you in the right direction.

Today, while I was at work, my dear Pengin was grabbed by a coyote. My mom was gardening and keeping an eye and ear out, but it snuck in under the radar. It was no later than 1:30 PM. I hate pup season. I hate coyotes. If I could wish one entire species away, it would be the coyotes native to this state.

I'm so sorry. :(
We lost another two hens(both our new RIR) last night to the raccoon that took Rosie, that we haven't been able to trap. **** predators.

So sorry. When hallerlake was here week before last, we saw a trail of feathers from the lane gate into the orchard to the pasture gate out, one of my cousin's young fowl taken at 10:00 or so that morning.

I'm pretty sure we can't wish coyotes away. Even though they're not a protected game species, the population is increasing. The only thing we can do is build and maintain better fences and cut down on the way we subsidise their populations: pet food inside, garbage cans secure, fallen fruit picked up*. If we could get a handle on broom and blackberries (and I have no room to talk about that subject) so that they don't have cover into our yards, that would help, too. LGDs and guard llamas would also be good.

*Just as true for raccoons, with the additional proviso of controlling nest sites- again, something I have no room to lecture anyone else about.

If you are in Bremerton, Cowgirl Grace is very near you. I am not sure if she still posts here. I have gotten fantastic birds from her ... Barnevelders, BCM, bantam cochins, orpingtons ... she has many others as well, but those are what I bought from her. I recall seeing Ameraucanas and Coronation Sussex at her place as well. If I can get ahold of her, I was thinking of driving out there as my birds from her have all been healthy and strong.
