Just moved to puget sound from Utah....had to leave chickies behind due to long commute, and coyotes in new yard. Hoping to start again in the spring, missing them!!!

Glad to have you. What kind of birds are ya thinking? Make sure to read the forum on local chicken ordinace for your city/county. Wouldn't want you to get into trouble.

Hi all! I have some juvenile bird/ 9 weeks old and today I watched one bird peck at and stare at another bird. Then the other bird started staring back. The two wouldn't stop staring at each other. I looked this up and it seems that it is a normal behavior for ROOSTERS but these are supposedly pullets. Does this behavior happen in both sexes? After about 15 minutes of the stare down, both birds jumped up and tried to fight with their feet. Then they both walked away and I haven't seen it since. These are my only two birds like this. They are a Cochin/ Andalusian mix. Can someone tell me if this is normal for lady birds too?
Thank you so much.

Even hens will fight as if they are roosters when they are establishing a pecking order. They will puff their neck feathers out and go at each other feet first just like a rooster fighting. At 9 weeks old it should be relatively easy to determine based on appearance if you have a Roo or a hen. Post some pictures of your supposed roo along with the other hens the same age if you can.

I agree @ 9wks its should be pretty apparent who is a pullet and who is a cock. Pics are great way for others to verify as well as we just like seeing birds

Hope the new year is treating everyone reasonably well.

I'm looking for BLOWN goose and duck eggs -- does anyone have them available in WA state? I used to get them from a local woman here near me but she's gotten out of poultry entirely and the spring season for pysanky is coming up. I have chickens...but the goose eggs always sell so well!
