Matt, you have very pretty birds!
I know this might be a long shot but does anyone have an extra brooders (homemade or not) and/or incubators they'd be willing to sell? I'm in Enumclaw but willing to meet or drive somewhere (within reason, of course!).
Thanks!!!
Carlie, have you considered using large plastic tubs? Just pop some wire over the top and you're good to go. How many chicks are you going to have?
I have considered it but I'm looking for something more permanent. I currently have a brooder but it's full with 22 chicks in it. I have another batch of 37 due to hatch on Sunday and another 41 going in the incubator after that. So, as you can see, I need something that is permanent and 'professional.' I've seen some pretty great homemade ones and was hoping someone had one they no longer needed.![]()
What you're describing is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. The only problem is I know it doesn't cost much in materials to make something like that but people tend to sell them for waaaaayyy too much. With that being said I'd be interested in the contact info to see what they can come up with. Thank you!!!I had mine made for me. It has two section and is about 96 x 30...can be sub divided into two sections, two heat lamps, clear plexiglass, stands about 3 ft high, wood, mesh bottom with pull out tray.....similar to this ~~but mine is fancier.....if you want the email of the person who custom makes them and coops, let me know...he is in Fall City

Is this the guy on Craigslist that's also making dog houses? I've been thinking of contacting him to have him build me a modified doghouse/duckhouse but wasn't sure of the build quality.I had mine made for me. I've been wanting to get back into making coops and I need to make myself a brooder. that's a pretty nice design! I bet you could make one cheap with crates they give away on CL and just buy the screen and plexi-glass. If course, if you were super thrifty, you might find free plexi-glass also.
My brooder is too heavy to haul around (made with 3/4" plywood, lol) and I have to use artificial light since it lives in my hen house, so I am wanting to modify it.
Here's pics of my coops we made in 2013:
