Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Let me know how much your willing to spend and I could probably make you one however you want. Your not to far from me.

That would be awesome! I'm looking to spend no more than $100. I've seen a couple local for sale for that price and they've been exactly what I'm looking for, someone just got to them before I did, bummer! They have heaters with thermostats instead of heat lamps, which is huge for me. I want something safer than a heat lamp.

If you're truly interested and think you can do it at that price send me a private message and I can give you some of the specifics that I'm looking for. Thank you! :)

I use a 5 foot diameter kiddie pool and a piece of 24" hardware cloth long enough (pi*ID of the pool at the base plus a few inches for overlap, secured with zip ties) to form a cylinder that fits inside the pool to keep the chicks in. The rim of the pool is high enough to keep bedding inside. Not pretty but - <$30 for the mats, assembles in <5 minutes, super easy to clean (dump the bedding in the compost and hose out anything that sticks), easy to store, and the materials can be repurposed when it's no longer needed.

my brooder this time around is going to be a plastic dog crate meant for great dane sized dogs. I'm going to get a big bag of playground sand to put in it, hang a lamp in there. set up their food and water. :)
I've used plastic dog crates before as brooders as well as a playpen

I am excited to be able to start free ranging my chickens and ducks again soon. I've let a friend stay with us here, and his dog will kill chickens and ducks so they have had to be penned up. Mostly because he wont even check but just shove his dog out the back door.
Really irritates me and after speaking to him on it i said to get out, because friends come and go my chickens and ducks are family! Their health and well being is more important then my social life.
It's really sad to, he could have taken his dog out on leash. I have 3 dogs that are completely safe with my chickens and ducks but i stay outside when my dogs are out there.
Plus soon my chicks and baby turkeys will be here. I wouldn't want his dog to get to them either.

This looks a lot like what I've used, I even added a nipple water bucket which goes outside with them when they're ready for that. They took to it immediately. I used coarse sand in the bottom and it was hilarious watching them scarf it down for the first little while. You'd think it was meal worms! And they were VERY efficient at kicking it out onto the floor. Little buggers!

I'm curious why you're using black light? And is it cfl or incandescent?
