I'm in Bothell, but I'm gonna be a duck lady. Hubby said no to chickens, citing the egg song potentially stirring up dissatisfaction with our neighbors.

And ducks quacking wont? What kind of neighbors do you have?
I think Muscovies are quiet, but they are not technically ducks. I'm hoping to set a batch in a couple of weeks. Totalcolour has Muscovies but I haven't heard from her lately. Anyone else?

Lol...Muscovies are ducks but come from a different type than other ducks. Muscovies are wonderful! Check out "Muscovy Duck Central" on the web if you are interested in info about them, I learned tons there!

Most domestic ducks come from a wild "Mallard" type, Anas Platyrhynchos, while Muscovies come from Cairina Moschata.

They are quiet, wag their tails, and bob their heads in greeting, I love them!

Did you check in with neighbors to see if they'd mind the sound? Our neighbors stop by to ask how the girls are doing & the boys across the way helped collect eggs and water them when we were not home during the summer. A few neighbors have commented that their noises add a nice layer over the normal street sounds in the am and they only sing the egg song for a minute or so. I do make a point to drop off extra eggs every once in awhile!

Have you found a place to buy your babies? How do ducks keep during the winter?
