Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi, noticed on Craig's list (Snohomish) that there is someone in Lynnwood selling a large number of different breeds and ages of chicks. Didn't say if they were from hatcheries or self raised. Even Swedish flower hens and Cream Legbar.

Also in Lake Stevens, an ad for many types and ages of ducks including Muscovey

It's been reported elsewhere that this seller very possibly has an MG outbreak. I can't confirm it personally, but everyone should be VERY CAUTIOUS and be certain to examine any birds from this seller very closely, as well as the REST OF THE FLOCK, too.

Even though Diane and Carol sold him healthy birds, they could easily have gotten sick if/when he exposed them to other sick birds.

And remember to ALWAYS quarantine newly acquired birds regardless of where they come from!!!

I have heritage rir and I am also the district 8 director of the rir club of america. I'm sure I can help anyone who wants to get started in reds and I also encourage joining the rirca!

Mine are not heritage but I am getting some from Mumsy in the spring. She has Ron Foggle,s line. I think that is how you spell his last name. I am also getting heritage Silver Penciled Rocks in the spring. :)

Thank you!

I'm getting excited. They will ship my chicks tomorrow. I have the brooder (dog crate) set up. Light in it, it's averaging 99-100 degrees under the light and down to 90 at the edges. I need to bleach the water and food dishes. as well as get marbles to fill the water thing up because turkey poults are stupid.
I put down sandy soil in the brooder instead of shredded papers. Hoping they can dust bath in it.

I don't think i'm missing anything, am i? stressing about it. I've raised turkeys and chicks every year not sure why i'm so stressed.

what's MG ?

I had to do a search..... Here is what I found.... I do not know if that is what the poster was talking about though.....

Would be nice if folks would spell out what the acronyms were, once, at the start of the post, for us irritating, PITA newbies...

Hello Again Everyone!

So we sold our old flocks ( of hatchery birds) and we're starting fresh this Spring. I am hoping that some of you will have hatching eggs available for sale around March or April. This will be the very first hatch for us so I am way nervous about the success (or lack of) from shipped eggs. Let's face it, being a newbie to incubating, I will be nervous enough!

Breeds that I would be most interested in:

Brahmas
Orpingtons (any color but Buff if possible)
Jersey Giants
Any bearded, muffed, crested breeds (DH requested this one)
Other large breeds
Maybe a silky or two just for fun

Since we have had trial & error for 3 plus years :) I would like to stay away from breeds that fly well (as adults) and breeds that are known for being "active, boisterous", etc)

We live in town and there is not much opportunity to free range. We have a very large fenced area and two coops but our Minorca wasn't very happy it seemed. I think all of you experienced folks get the picture!

Thanks much!
