Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

2 of my polish babies are dieing :( It sucks cause there is honestly NOTHING i can do. They are doing what the ones from feedstores do. Not moving, trouble breathing. basically acting like the stress was to much for them and they are dieing.
Too cold ?
Too hot ?
Any symptoms ?
I have to go cook a steak valentine dinner for my sweetie..................but I really hope you find the reason for the bird's deaths.

When i first opened the box these two were acting weaker then the rest. One went down within an hour of being here and is still barely breathing. the other was wobbly but hadn't gone down yet til i checked on them a few minutes ago it had gone down (laying on it's side) struggling to breath worse then when i first took it out of the box.
I really think it was just stress. because they were shipped out day before yesterday. It took 2 days to get to me that is a LOT of stress. Also they came from Ideal poultry which is in Texas meaning they got to ride in a plane. That had to be extremely stressful.

Most of the babies are running around like they are on crack. They aren't huddling to close til they settle when they settle down they cuddle together not directly under the light. So I think i have the temp just right for them. They are on dirt/sand. They have good water, and good feed. I'm just... I don't know it really sucks cause it's two of the polish ones and I really really wanted one or two polish hens. i ordered 6 straight run polish just in case this happened (thankfully) but now am wishing i'd ordered more of the polish because some of the chicks are for my nephew and he wants the "fro chickies" as well.

I am going to quote myself here:

IF what I see as the phot you posted earlier, with the baby chicks.
This is a clear slap in the face that the babies are too cold.
They are pushing & huddling under what appears to be a light bulb ?
Babies need a infrared bulb, and one must take notice what the babies are doing~
Are they huddled & shoving ?
Are they spread out & relaxed ?
Are they at opposite corners of the brooder trying to get away from the heat ?
IF SO, raise the HEAT LAMP, if they are huddled & shoving under the HEAT LAMP, then lower it.
WATCH the baies, their behaviour will tell you if they are comfortable or not.
If not, yep, they are gonna die.

It is seriously hard to kill baby chicks, they are tough.
It is easy to kill them, too, usually with COLD.
Just watch their behaviour, and tune into what is said at the beginning of BYC on how to raise baby chicks.
Best of luck !

Hopefully you get it figured out !!
I feel bad I cannot be there to help !
I do know you need a heat lamp...in this weather, it is cold, there are drafts, especially on the floor.
Hope you get it figured out !

I've been raising baby chicks for years. Yes the first photos i took they were shoving under the light. That was RIGHT after i took them out of their box. 10 minutes later they had scattered around eating, and drinking except these two. The first one laid down as soon as i sat it down as if it just give up right then. The second was wobbly and didn't move much. the other 23 babies are fine.

They aren't on a floor, they are on the counter in a heated room inside a dog crate. I'm just really upset i'm pretty sure their deaths are because the post office wouldn't let me get them at 6 this morning after they'd called me. They made me wait til 830 to get them. During that time who knows what temps they were kept at. most likely they weren't kept warm. and while majority of them did great those two did not.
Though when getting shipped chicks it is typical for a few of them to die.

I sewed some old fabric that was tore into a funnel shape and sewed little handles in it to hang my chicky nipple waterers from. :) worked great. Now they can have clean water without being able to kick dirt into it.

It looks to me in this pic, that they are cold, and huddled under a light bulb.
Hopefully you have the issue fixed !
G'night all
I will try to get on tomorrow.
