I wanted to say hi on this thread. I'm new to chickens - we have 6 chicks in my brooder for almost a week now. We decided to get chicks when we moved to Snohomish County and our new property had a coop on it. DH & I have been working on getting the coop cleaned & fixed up for the eventual move. If anyone has any advice/tips/resources I'd love to hear them. I am sure I'll be checking this thread all the time now that I know it exists, but feel free to PM me as well! (I realize that there is probably a lot of info in this thread - but it's a bit too long to try reading all of.)

Hi There! And Welcome To The Group!
If you go back just about a week you'll see some tips. and ideas. There's also an entire section on building coops with some very good ideas. Kudos for planning ahead!

Hey! Anyone know of a black copper maran breeder in washington? Not hatchery stuff. And also a real ameraucana breeder with blue eggs? I want to have colorful eggs to collect this next round! Anyone in enumclaw or king county that hatches them?

Hi and Welcome!
There are several, it just depends on where you are and/or where you want to drive to get them. Check with Zgoatlady in Enumclaw for BCMs, and Cowgirlgrace in Gig Harbor for both breeds.

Too bad you missed the show in Monroe Saturday, there were several breeders that you could have met up with. The next opportunity to see several in one place will be the Mother Earth News Fair at the Puyallup Fair Grounds in May (I think). Even if you've already bought what you want it's a good place to meet breeders for the future. And it's fun.

Anyone out in the P.A. / Sequim area????

Welcome! Glad you found us!
There are, but I can't remember their names right now... AletaG comes to mind.

Yup. Pretty much. So spread the word

Huh???

We made some progress on the duck enclosure over the weekend! It's set up, now to bury the pond and bury the wire skirting, and get the roof and horizontal pieces up.

The show dates for that one are May 31/June 1. Should be a good show, I'm hoping my Langshans get fertile so I can hatch enough out to feel safe showing my adults.

Thanks Matt, The beauty of this fair is that its based on education, not like a regular fair with the midway mentality. I was there with the llama education exhibit but came over to say Hi and enjoy the poultry. Highly recommend it to everyone….

It was a fun experience last year. A bit out there on some of the stuff in the Mother Earth news portion, but the show is a separate entity, and an actual show that attracts some real breeders and quality birds too (unlike fairs). Plus last year they had an excellent beer garden that was worth the trip in and of itself.
