Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I was looking for information on dosing Ivermectin for chickens and came across this posted on a bird site:

Signs Of Ivermectin Poisoning
The clinical signs of Ivermectin poisoning are:

excessive dilatation of the pupil of the eye
lethargy
stupor
coma
tremors
loss of coordination of the muscles, especially of the extremities (ataxia)
vomiting (emesis)
drooling
death

Less visible symptoms:

depression
tachycardia (fast pulse)
blood pressure fluctuation

Has anyone experienced ivermectin poisoning of chickens? I am not sure how much is too much but I use a pretty strong dose when I treat chickens and I am not sure how much they can tolerate, especially with doses administered close together or in combination with other treatment. If a chicken were to survive being poisoned, how long would it take for symptoms to show up and how long would it take before they improve if the bird survives?

Are you serious??? Did they really have nickles WAAAAAYYY back then. I thought varying sizes of rocks were the standard from of back then !!

So nice to see someone with such a great sense of humour !!
HA HA HA

I picked some dust up to dust the area he's in and around my coop just to be safe. I usually have to have someone else do the dust when I use it because I have such a bad reaction but his current space is a brooder so it wasnt a huge area, got it dusted prrtty quick with my shirt over my face lol.

I will try the other feed and see what supplements I have on hand or can find at the feed store. Thanks for the help

I am using Eprinex, pour on, and the dosage is different, sorry.

Oh, also, you can get Sevin DUST in the bug killer aisle, and dust their bottoms with it.
Don't breath it though !
Sevin dust seems to work when all others fail.
cmsdvm has mentioned mites seem to be morphing into "super bugs"...where permethrins used to work, they no longer seem to do so.
I have had mites here that Eprinex did nothing for !
Only Sevin worked, and sevin liquid spray'ed walls, ceilings, bedding & the entire pens !
Yes mites nowadays can get really out of hand really fast, that's why we are watching to see if it is a depluming mite, or a Northern Red Fowl Mite.
Depluming mites make the birds itch so bad they pull their feathers out.
These little buggers can bite you too !

CL... What concentration/dilution of Sevin Liquid do you use? And how long after spraying inside a coop can the birds return?

Carolyn I just followed the directions on the label to kill mites.
I pumped up the hudson sprayer & absolutely douched the entire coops, walls, ceilings, nest boxes & surrounding pens & bushes.
That is how bad depluming mites can be.

Red Northern Fowl mites are no where near this hard to kill.
I let the birds come right in but most stay out during the day.

At night I dosed with Eprinex, every 5 days !
I hand dusted the birds with Sevin dust !
I sprayed the coops every week.
Still, it took a good month to get rid of all the depluming mites.
And then all bedding & nest box material was changed.
I was surprised to see how many of these micro mites were on walls & IN the cedar floor shavings...cedar did not bother them a bit.
I am not at all sure Eprinex bothered them either.

The label on the liquid sevin I have doesn't mention mites. And the concentration for all the bugs it mentions ranges from 3/8 to 5 ounces per gallon. For example grasshoppers 3/4 - 2.25 oz., ticks 1- 3 oz, fire ants 1.5 oz, mosquitoes 3/8 - 1.5 oz, and "nuisance pests" 5 oz per gallon sprayed on the perimeter of the structure. They're all over the place.

That's why I was asking.

wow, the brand I got was not that vague...I guess If it were me I'd go with the directions for ticks, which are related to mites...nasty buggers !!!

I just wanted to let anyone that may be interested in the sick roo situation known that I have submitted my report to king county animal control and was able to include ALL of the photos I got of his condition after he arrived to my home. They were appreciative I was able to include the sellers name along with the address and that I have two. Other people that are submitting reports as well(my sis and her boyfriend that picked up the roo), because they'd love to have reports of the property conditions and the. Other animals there.
