No, no problems. In fact I haven't seen mites of any kind in quite some time. I'm getting ready to add some 5-week chicks and I'm cleaning out the dog house coop that's been sitting empty since last spring. I sprayed the inside with bleach solution and thought it might be a good idea to treat it and the main coop with sevin, just for good measure. But I didn't want to poison anybody either.
Thanks for the extra info. though. It's good to have it before I need it, rather than scrambling later.
Get all that stuff & have it on hand:
NEEM OIL
TEA TREE OIL (Melafix)
Sevin concentrate & Sevin Dust
And still we have dust baths for all the birds, with DE & Sand in each, kept dry, in each coop.
And watch for crawlies..these things will go up your arm & in your hair.
The depluming mites I have had do not make a sandy dirty cushion (rear end) on the birds.
They seem to live more in & on the roosts, and coop floor, and with every blood meal, they molt until they are an adult & will have 6 legs like a tick.
Under an eye loupe they will look exactly like a tick, young ones have only 6 legs though.
So they'll bite, and molt several times before becoming an adult.
Nasty buggers !
Get the bucket of Manteca (Lard) or a tub or crisco...and do the mix, careful to use a double boiler as the grease can catch fire.
Great but short time with TC today !!!
And Margaret has her eggs.........................
OK peeps...I am off for Gluten Free PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
