@Bleenie , just thinking - you may want to wait a couple of days. From the pics he looks so distressed, so it might be prudent to let him recover for a bit before another stressor on his system. You have done so much already, and he seems to be getting over everything fast. Just take it slowly. He's a great looking boy!

SQUEE!! So EGGCITED!

Hello all! This is my first post on BYC after months of lurking. I just got my first chicks a couple days ago here in the Olympia/Tumwater area. I have two Buff Orpingtons and a Barred Plymouth Rock chick, all females. They're all 15 days old. I absolutely adore them but my 3 year old son is the chick whisperer.. He reads and sings to them at bedtime and is so gentle with them (petting only, not ready to hold them yet). We're building a small coop this weekend and this site has been super helpful in planning and designing it. I'll be sure to share pictures when it's finished! For now, here are a couple photos even though I know you've all seen a million chicks before

this is so exciting for me! Looking forward to chatting with everyone here and I know I'll continue getting great information from this site.
What a lovely story !

No, no problems. In fact I haven't seen mites of any kind in quite some time. I'm getting ready to add some 5-week chicks and I'm cleaning out the dog house coop that's been sitting empty since last spring. I sprayed the inside with bleach solution and thought it might be a good idea to treat it and the main coop with sevin, just for good measure. But I didn't want to poison anybody either.

Thanks for the extra info. though. It's good to have it before I need it, rather than scrambling later.

Get all that stuff & have it on hand:
NEEM OIL
TEA TREE OIL (Melafix)
Sevin concentrate & Sevin Dust
And still we have dust baths for all the birds, with DE & Sand in each, kept dry, in each coop.
And watch for crawlies..these things will go up your arm & in your hair.
The depluming mites I have had do not make a sandy dirty cushion (rear end) on the birds.
They seem to live more in & on the roosts, and coop floor, and with every blood meal, they molt until they are an adult & will have 6 legs like a tick.
Under an eye loupe they will look exactly like a tick, young ones have only 6 legs though.
So they'll bite, and molt several times before becoming an adult.
Nasty buggers !
Get the bucket of Manteca (Lard) or a tub or crisco...and do the mix, careful to use a double boiler as the grease can catch fire.
Great but short time with TC today !!!
And Margaret has her eggs.........................
OK peeps...I am off for Gluten Free PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bleenie:

I was thinking the same...maybe Wazine him first to dump part of his parasite load...then try more.
Vitamins will be so beneficial for him too !
Hope this link comes through

This product replaces Broiler Max, and it is packed FULL of Vits & min & it is the same dosage, 1/2 tsp per gallon For Broilers !
For my regular egg layer fowl, I divide this in half, so 1/4 tsp per gallon of water.

hello all, Just checking in here... I just started my new flock of Ancona ducks up here in Oak harbor on Whidbey Island. I look forward to conversing with you all. My Ducklings are 4 weeks and a little camera shy right now but I should be getting an update here soon.

These three Australian Spotted ducklings are enjoying their new home on Bainbridge Island. I have an unrelated adult pair that will be joining them once the aggressive ganders currently living there are gone. I have more ducklings that hatched yesterday and today and a nest of eggs under a hen should be hatching any time now. That hen will be joined by her ducklings and an unrelated drake to start another flock. Then I have three more hens on nests that will start flocks with unrelated drakes joining them and their ducklings once they hatch. I just love these ducks and I am glad others will be enjoying them too.

Welcome neighbor - did you get your ducklings at Skagit Farmers Supply ( Cenex)? I'm in OH also

Watch out for racoons and when they are old enough to be outside - eagles. Know lots of folks here that have lost ducks and chickens to eagles - yes even in city limits.
