Well since we are showing males. Here's the silkie boy I'm keeping. He's still getting his hackle and saddle in. Lots of pinfeathers there. The one behind him is a pullet about the same age. You can see how his neck feathers are much more fluffy and the saddle is starting to cover his wings a bit. Oh and the red on the wings. Big give away in this color.
Good job, and yes we have serious pens here, climb & dig proof.....
AND in the tractor, we have the birds out only sun rise to sunset and next to the dog...................who watches over all..............our pens are kick butt !
This is the brooder pen, where babies are (to the right) so why is the 1" plastic fencing over the field fencing, all is NO DIG (look at the foot of the fence on the left) see the fencing laying on the ground ?
That is "no dig" and the top is "no climb"
A better view of "no dig"
Anyone want more info, PM me !

If you live near a Habitat for Humanity, you can get the building materials for super cheep. I built my coop for $320. You can see it in my signature. Point is, if you are on a budget, you just have to look harder to find what you want for cheep : ) even craigslist has people selling lumber cheep : /

I am back....been gone for a but, vacation and traffic accident.....but all ok now.
chickens are doing well...decided what rare breeds to settle on. Also reducing the flock for winter. The spouse ignores the chickens as now I have them to under 100 , ha ha.....
A few shots of cockerels and their saddle hackle, 4 mo old Bucke eye above, note his saddle long slim GLOSSY feathers on his back & neck (called a cape)
This is a Buckeye hen, NO HACKLE
Super Crele below, (Buster as a 6 mo old) glossy skinny hackle on the neck & saddle
Same cockerel, note the glossy skinny hackle feathers on neck & saddle of the back
Here you can compare the male & female, the females have no hackle spread on their backs & necks
This is a partridge Cantecler, Buster's full brother, easy to see his saddle hackle & neck cape hackle
This is a Silver Cuckoo marans hen:
No hackle
This is a silver Cuckoo Marans Cockerel, lotsa hackle !
This is Buster's Dad, "Phoenix", and shows the hackle on the male Cock bird:
This is Buster, Phoenix's son, so note the hackle emerges at about 2-3 mo of age & grows out LONG and flows over the male bird's back like a water fall, it is beautiful, and highly sought after by fly tyers
So.... I ordered eggs. Then brought the subject up with DH. He says "No. Birds cost money." Any tips for changing his mind since I have duck hatching eggs are gonna show up soon? Haha. He works full time so they won't be a nuisance for him... it's just an issue of feed costs to him.
Hello Fellow Washingtonians! I live in the Toledo area and have a small flock of Orpingtons and Wyandottes. I'm looking for sources in-state for English-bred Orpington pullets (Lavenders, Lavender/Splits, Black and possibly Lavender Cuckoo). I have had eggs and birds shipped in the past but would prefer to do business in person and more locally. If any of you have resources you could recommend I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
