Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

There seems to be a lot of new people posting here in the Washington area. Hello to all the new guys and gals : )

On another note, I was just talking to my wife last night about our girls...

So, this week our teenage pullets are 23 weeks old... They all have red combs, but they do not squat yet.... We have done tons of work transforming our property to be chicken friendly for years to come... We are just anxious for eggs. If they even come this fall/winter.

People have told us they might not lay till this coming spring. Which would just suck. : ( Getting two eggs a day from our 1yr olds is getting old lol. We want more eggs! My wife and I are sick of buying eggs from costco : P

Hopefully they do start laying soon. I had one of my young silkies lay her first egg Thursday and she's not on light. One of my 19 week olds squatted this week. I hope to see eggs in the next few weeks. That one is on light.

good luck on them laying this season!

Next time you see me, say hello. I always love meeting new chicken people in the area. We also started a local poultry club and have meetings on the second Saturday of every month at the library in Deer Park (had one last night). Since all the good shows are on the coast or in Montana, we started a club to promote poultry.

I would love to join. Winter meetings may be hard to attend (i get snowed in a lot) but i will be there otherwise.

my older chicks are 10 weeks old they are java/salmofaverollie/barred rock cross, lol i have absolutely no idea what gender or anything my chicks are at this point fingers crossed pullets, they are in the henhouse just a reg light on inside for last three days and first time outside in the real world today :) then have 3 three week old americana/wyndotte(maybe polish) crosses they are getting spoiled with nice cozy spot by the pellet stove lol
10 weeks and first time outside. I let mine out for the first time when they were around 6 weeks. But it was a bit nicer out lol right now they are outside but they go in because I have the light on so it's warmer lol. My other 3 are always wanting to come out and free range, I let them out at 10, before that they are just in the run. By the stove lol so how many chickens do you have in total?

I'm sure you can get them to start laying. My birchen maran started laying maybe a month ago which wasn't as cold but she still laying right now she gave me fresh egg yesterday which I had for breakfast.! So delicious lol it was my first egg that I eat from her. Then her sister lol is getting close to laying her comb is red but not like the one who is laying. 2 eggs a day I wish I had that! Lol I just get one. I get maybe 5 eggs out the week from her. Can't wait for the second to start laying if she does this winter as you mentioned. I will be putting a light on for her to keep laying. Does anyone do this for there girls to keep laying through winter.?

Nice to see many more people starting to talk.
