Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Yup I give up. Enjoy risking your birds' health folks. I hope none of the ignorance affects real chicken breeders. Just trying to help.
Stating your opinion? Sure it's you opinion. Offer helpful information or tips? Great! No one knows everything. Implying people are ignorant in anyway because they are raising their animals differently... Rude and unnecessary. Do what you feel you need to to keep your flock safe and I'll handle mine.

By the way... a breeder is defined as:
  1. A person who breeds animals or plants.
So anyone on here who has bred there birds for any reason is a real chicken breeder.

so does anyone garden? I had planned on doing some sunflowers and other such things around the outside of the chicken area..but I have since rethought that because it would attract more bird wildlife around the chicken area..and especially with the AI issue this is not a desirable thoughts now...... I had thought to possible plant such wilflife attraction plants as far away now to encourage such things into a different area.......

I have a 30x40 fenced garden area for my veggies. I just picked up some seeds today! We grow herbs in the house. It always smells so good! Way better than fabreeze lol

I have a few raised beds. I've been learning what will grow well and what won't here. Peas, squash, and cabbage all did really well for me. I had issues with the brussels sprouts last year. I think it was the type I got in the 6 pack. I'm starting it from seed this year.

I need to plant more rhubarb this year. Horse radish is in a big tub right now and did really well last year.

The herbs have all done pretty good. The catmint is coming up right now. The catnip never fully died back. I thought I saw some peppermint coming up and will be moving a chunk this year.

Right now there is a pen of silkies cleaning out a garden bed for me. I'll be moving that pen in a few weeks.

I love my herbs I have been growing one perticular basil plant indoors for the last year and a half..have it in a lil diy aquaponics set up........ I was thinking I'll have to start taking some clones off it so can plant outdoors in the raised beds......... I've got some swiss chard starts I started up in the greenhouse I've started putting out by the flower bed by the chicken run...also doing rosemary and few other herbs around in the general area......and I had wanted to plant some millet and such by the fence and encourage it along the fence for the birds to peck at thru the fencing but again have changed mind because I dont want to encourage the wildlife around them....fortunately dont have any ponds or such nearby but plenty of wood peckers and owls and finches galore...

have heard that butterfly bush is nice bug attractor and the chickens won't demolish it...
