Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

So... Joy of my health issues lately is I don't sleep well. Decided to go peek at a very quiet bunch of fluffybutts. 8 "dead" chicks. All that was missing were tiny snores. None panting. All sprawled and oblivious until I accidently woke a few laughing. I'd guess the food, water, and temp are to their liking. Lol

YIPPEE!

Looks like I am momma to 7 healthy looking chicks.

No clue what happened. Yesterday, she was right as rain. Eating, drinking and bouncing about. Not sure on pooping. She pooped after being isolated, but it was the white and green poo... not brown like the others. No pasty butt and crop was full but not hard. Went downhill at a rather unbelievable pace. Such a sweet little thing. I am trying to convince myself that there was probably a reason. I DID notice all the others picking on her earlier today, perhaps they knew something I did not. *sigh*

Catface - I love the pictures of your chickens. They look so big and ..... fluffy!

chickielady - I just love, love, love your paintings especially the horses and the fox.

It's so funny. It was my husband's idea to get chicks, even though he says I wanted them first. NOW, on our drive home from a Military Appreciation Days at Ft Lewis/McCord, he talked about rigging up fencing to give our girls more outside area to roam. You know what that means....chicken math looks to be in my future. The thing is I would have to start doing something with all those extra eggs. (I had been thinking silently to myself how it would be nice to give more ground to my girls but it was only a thought and I had not voiced it to anyone. Now, watch him try and blame me for this.)

Oh, my girls have now started to roost in the rafters of their coop. Yay!

And then there were 6.

All 7 were tearing about friskily last night before bed. At 1 am, when I peeked in, they were spread about snoring nicely. The 6 left are once again doing roadrunner impressions this morning, but one did not wake. Dead as a doornail. The temp seems fine, they are on mannapro medicated chick starter, and have sav-a-chick electrolytes in the water. No clue what can kill a seemingly healthy chick in 8 hours. Even coccidiosis is not THAT quick.
