Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

And then there were 6.

All 7 were tearing about friskily last night before bed. At 1 am, when I peeked in, they were spread about snoring nicely. The 6 left are once again doing roadrunner impressions this morning, but one did not wake. Dead as a doornail. The temp seems fine, they are on mannapro medicated chick starter, and have sav-a-chick electrolytes in the water. No clue what can kill a seemingly healthy chick in 8 hours. Even coccidiosis is not THAT quick.

Wow I'm so sorry your going through that

I have comfrey from Hinotori, and it is beautiful ! But yet just a single plant, do you need some ?
I need more mint, any flavour !
I tried to dig out all the comfrey in the garden last month and now have 4 large stands of it again to dig out….It is pretty and the bees and hummers love it, but it never goes away once planted. i did see a comfrey at the special garden nursery near me that says it doesn't spread. It was a beautiful tri-color with yellow white and green foliage and the purple flowers.

I had hoped to be free yesterday so i could have met You in Monroe or something…..especially if i had known You wanted mint….I have Peppermint, chocolate mint and spearmint……Can send You some small plants in the mail if You like…..

I am happy to send Comfrey root to anyone….

Chickielady, Your artwork is amazing….Like the more modern ones toooo….

I want comfrey for "the dead zone". I want to plant it between the coop and the garage, and possibly in the "annex". See, I want to put pea gravel directly under coop run so they can come out in the nasty wet weather (it will also be covered). Then there will be an annex run -a containment field. They will spend a good part of the day free ranging in the backyard however, and will have supervised visitation in the front flower beds in the evening (just before dusk, so they can be easily persuaded to leave). If comfrey grows the way you all say, and can come back from bare dirt, and is good for chickens supposedly, not to mention bees,... It should be perfect!

Yea that's rough when there's not a way to figure it out. You are right Coccidiosis doesn't even hit that fast. Have you contacted a vet or anything, maybe see what they say. Esp if it's something that could be contagious to other birds. That would be horrible You're in my prayers

Although they are very active, they are eating and drinking excessively, or it seems so to me. I lowered the temp from 92 to 85 and they are even MORE active. They are SO tiny, but... perhaps being an old and supposedly hardy breed, they need less heat? I actually just read that they have I higher mortality rate than most breeds have for first 3 weeks. Guess I should have ordered extras! Perhaps I will do so and hope I can sell off the extras.

@OverEggstended I'm so sorry you are losing chicks! I hope it stops

and praying for you.

@Chickielady you are an amazing artist! I have wanted to paint for a long time and took an oil painting class but stopped when I got pregnant with my son (who's 9 now!) We are moving later this year and after we are settled I would like to pick this up again (my youngest will be going into kindergarten).

So, I have a question - do any of you have Poison Hemlock and if so, what have you done to get rid of it? We have discovered it where we had planned on having a large chicken run. Now the run will have to be much smaller until we get rid of it. Any ideas of how to get rid of it safely without using poison (since this will be run and pasture) would be much appreciated. It is growing over a large area.
Thanks!
