OmG!!
So, there is NO way I'm gonna catch up on all the talk on here!! Jeez!
So, just a little catch up here, for those of you following the continuing hip saga. I was in Seattle this past Monday at the Seattle VA for an Orthopedic consult, and as I had suspected they want to do a total hip replacement! So, they have scheduled me for Aug 28,2013. Yes I know it's a long time from now, yes I know a whole lot of pain to endure to get there. BUT, after speaking to the nurses and the head of surgery there, they do more hip replacements then I first thought! I mean lots!! They also do surgery for Uof W and Harborview. And I really don't have the 6 or more thousand dollars it may take to pay my half of the 20% of my copay. So, there it is!
We did however take my dads old truck up to CLs so Einstein can rebuild or replace what he can and make good use of it. We also visited a short time with CR and Diane, and they were very kind and made dinner for us! Terry and I want to express our appreciation to both couples for their hospitality and generosity!

It was a long trip but we got a lot done.
I hope everyone is staying warm and dry, and your flocks are all doing well! Sorry I couldn't go back over the posts, just don't have the patience! LOL!! so if I missed something I apologize!
other than that, all the critters were still here and still alive so, yea, still got lots of ducks, if any one needs some!! LOl!
While I am delighted to hear that they are finally going to do something helpful, it seems to be a pain in the a** to have to wait 9 more months to get it done. Are they at least starting to treat the pain , that you will have to endure in the mean time? It seems like a long time to be in a lot of pain.

Oh good! I was worried that they were completely earthbound. I'll have to figure out something with the main coop, but the quarantine one shouldn't be any problem. I hope tomorrow is warm enough to put some paint on and have it actually dry.

I need to dig around my reptile room. I think I've got a small radiant heat panel lying around somewhere. If I can find it, I will install it on the ceiling in the little coop and plug it into a proportional thermostat. That way nobody will get their heads singed if they get too close.

34 here this morning......all is well.
We are getting things buttoned up for freeze, like the hoses & washing machine..............and well house.

I got stuff to make Toll House cookies & will use the Pamela's Baking mix.
So far, everything I make using a regular recipe (like the Toll House recipe on the choco chips bag) but subsitute Pamela's Baking Mix instead of wheat flour, comes out excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am loving that stuff !!!

OK back to work again....I am short a few yards of fabric for my baby quilt so I have not been able to start that, darn it all.
Wish there was a fabric store close by here !!!!

What types of fabric are you looking for? I have a fairly large stash, of fat quarters and 1/2 to 1 yard cuts. Maybe I could mail you some of the fabric that you need.

Quote: I know that you have to buy a sale table or if you are attending the show and have chickens already sold, you can exchange them there. But I don't know if just anyone can bring birds to sell. I don't think so.

I dealt with this myself at last Decembers show. You have to join WFF's club. Last year the dues were 12.00 and that included all of this year. I was able to offer my 2 pure white Americana roos. I didn't get them sold, but it wasn't a big problem to have them at the show. The club has sales cages that the birds are placed in for the day.

Well I did manage to get out side for about 2 and half hours of daylight, and about an hour of dark. I manage to get at least 30 geraniums, and another 8 or so Gazanias. I am hoping that the Gazanias will survive this year. I am fairly sure that soon I need to bring them into the house. The greenhouse couldn't protect them enough last year. I still have to pull all the geraniums from the front of the house. Most of them are tucked into the garage, but I am fairly sure that we managed to miss a few more of the plants yesterday.

DH helped me get in all of the hanging baskets into the garage yesterday, and got all the water faucets covered today. So at this point I am feeling like I can manage to get the rest of the plants taken care of for the winter. I did get my one basket of fuchsias tucked into the garage today.

I rarely have any problems with freezing until the temperatures drop below about 26 according to my outside thermometers. At about 26 or below, I have to start carrying water to the chickens, but this year will get out the heated water bowls, that I got on clearance this spring.

Well I think I am going to head for bed. DH is leaving in the early morning, for a week in Wisconsin. I am looking forward to the weeks that the holidays are in. DH is home normally for the week of Thanksgiving, and the 2 weeks of Christmas, and New Years. DH has been gone for several 3 week trips this past year. I tend to find anything more than Monday through Friday, for than a bit taxing.

Goodnight

PS Thank you CG for taking care of the night crew yesterday. I now wish that I had checked in.

Quote: It's not cocci that is a big worry. That can be easily treated or prevented by putting corid in the water when you bring new ones home. Then you can do what CL says and give Corid to them one week on and one week off so that their system starts building immunity to your strain of cocci. They need to get exposed but you don't want it to take over their systems. I have Corid on hand always, and I also have a few antibiotics on hand too.

The other things you have to worry about it major chicken illnesses that the birds you are bringing in may be carriers for. Things they may not be showing signs or symptoms of, but can spread to your flock who may not be immune. Sometimes the new ones will start to show symptoms of illness with the stress of a car ride and a new home. it's just a time for you to observe and care for them without getting your current flock sick and possibly losing some. When I bring home new birds I treat for mites and lice, and I give electrolytes in the water, and I watch. Some people give some type of antibiotic like Denegard as a preventative for a few days too. I would look up quarantining here on the thread and you will get a lot of info, and alot of opinions. You then get to decide how you want to do it, and for how long. Most say 30 days, some say 3 weeks, some don't do it at all and haven't had any problems, and others had done it for a month and lost a few. It is roll of the dice anyway when adding started or older birds from somewhere else. Just need to do your best and watch closely. Hope this answers some of your questions.
