Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I just want to say thank you to all of you for letting me be a part of this thread, even though I am from the southern border. The Oregon thread is VERY slow. I am pretty introverted, exact opposite of my DW, so I have a hard time meeting people. This forum allows me to talk, without talking. I was really hoping to make the WFF next weekend and put some faces to names, but my youngest son(16) has organized a time trial for his school and the rival school in the district(and some more schools including college kids). It is a track 3k, so the kids can see their current time and figure out what training(how many miles per week) they need to do between now and track season. I will likely be photographing the event. This kids is absolutely addicted to running. My oldest son has moved to Elgin Airforce Base to go through phase 2 of Army EOD(Explosive Ordinance Disposal) schooling(this is where ALL phase 2 EOD schooling is for all Branches). He will get to come home for Christmas. Yay.
Elgin as in IL ???

I can get the turkey as far as Hwy 18 and I-90 if that would help.
The hard part is getting DH convinced that we need to go to the show.
Since I am not showing, he is miffed that we need to go at all.
I'm working on it...I would like to get a few sale cages & see if I cannot sell some birds there, for the day, on Saturday only.

Q for CR::::

We have a cast iron Dutch west (I think?) wood stove given to us by brother...and alot of dual walled (open) pipe, ya want it for your (icy colddrafty) shop ??????????????
Would keep ya a bit warmer out there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Einstein says come & get it !!!
he wants it out of his shop...no room.

I have sent him to the shop with the camera, and as soon as he uncovers the wood stove he is taking photos of it~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What types of fabric are you looking for? I have a fairly large stash, of fat quarters and 1/2 to 1 yard cuts. Maybe I could mail you some of the fabric that you need.
Awww, you are so sweet !
But I went on Joanne's.com yesterday & purchased a mess of Calicoes, also on sale 30-50% off, and got enough for free shipping...so all's well.
I just was leary about buying without actually 'seeing & feeling' the fabric, but Keepsake Calicoe Quilting fabrics are the best so that is what I got.
I think I now have plenty....and now I am ancy to get going on it !!!!!!!!

Most of my stash is still packed away in CA...I have some here, but have discovered the 'some' here is already cut for a different pattern, called French Braid.

I have tried pumpkin cheesecake several times, it is not worth the calories as far as I am concerned. I say that I really like cheesecake, but the pumpkin is not ever going to be a favorite, and now I can ignore it.
I agree, having pumpkin in the cheese cake makes the cheese cake very uncheesy tasting...I love the sweet-tartness of Cream Cheese, and the pumpkin smothers that up.
What I have done with pumpkin that is good is make the standard pie custard, and cook in individial ramekins...that was excellent !!!
Big squirt of whipped cream on top, sprinkle of nutmeg on the cream...excellent.

I also LOVE a pumpkin 'loaf' which is thin sliced pumpkin cake, with the cream cheese layer, then roll that up....makes a swirl pattern......that came out good.

It's not cocci that is a big worry. That can be easily treated or prevented by putting corid in the water when you bring new ones home. Then you can do what CL says and give Corid to them one week on and one week off so that their system starts building immunity to your strain of cocci. They need to get exposed but you don't want it to take over their systems. I have Corid on hand always, and I also have a few antibiotics on hand too.

The other things you have to worry about it major chicken illnesses that the birds you are bringing in may be carriers for. Things they may not be showing signs or symptoms of, but can spread to your flock who may not be immune. Sometimes the new ones will start to show symptoms of illness with the stress of a car ride and a new home. it's just a time for you to observe and care for them without getting your current flock sick and possibly losing some. When I bring home new birds I treat for mites and lice, and I give electrolytes in the water, and I watch. Some people give some type of antibiotic like Denegard as a preventative for a few days too. I would look up quarantining here on the thread and you will get a lot of info, and alot of opinions. You then get to decide how you want to do it, and for how long. Most say 30 days, some say 3 weeks, some don't do it at all and haven't had any problems, and others had done it for a month and lost a few. It is roll of the dice anyway when adding started or older birds from somewhere else. Just need to do your best and watch closely. Hope this answers some of your questions.

Moving birds can stress them enough so that their hidden illnesses can pop right out after a move.
