Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Has anyone been to the westport aquarium? They have ducks in the back pond area! We walked through yesterday and they give you shrimp and lettuce at the door to feed the fish and ducks, which makes it my kind of place, lol. Of course I immediately got pinched because I didn't throw my lettuce, lol. My husband asked what was wrong with the runner ducks, and if we could eat the eggs... I think I get ducklings next spring now and it wasn't even my idea :)

well hello from beautiful Pacific Northwest! Haven't we had the most amazing summer?  I'm over here on the peninsula near Seabeck Washington. I have a nice tidy herd of feathers and I'm out wrangling them daily. New to this forum and if there are any others near the Bremerton/Silverdale area I'd love to meet you and swap info! :thumbsup  give me a hollar.. I'm either wrangling or working in the garden.  Thanks, Margaret
Howdy from Port Orchard!

I've been Mia here for a while, so sorry I'm late in saying Welcome to the group!

I'm in Tracyton. :)

Chicken scare yesterday. One of the neighborhood dogs got out while they were BBQing out front, and decided to roam the neighborhood. From what I was told, he started to go into one neighbors garage, and when that neighbor walked towards him - he went for my backyard! (our neighborhood is a weird H shape, so I have neighbors behind me) Went THROUGH the fencing (nothing fancy, just some deer netting, it's been working - until now!) we had up and scared the crap out of my girls. We got home just after it happened, and thought one of our girls was gone. I literally walked around asking people if they had seen a chicken (crazy chicken ladies be roamin' the neighborhoods!). I started to through some scratch out hoping that would entice her to come home, and voila! She had been hiding in the flowers that are right up next to the house. My husband saw her wing and thought maybe the dog had gotten her. Nope, she was just being the chicken hide and seek champ.

Luckily out of our four girls, only two had been drooled on/feathers nommed a bit, and one had gotten out of the yard and was trying to get back in (She's not the brightest, even for a chicken), and the other made it to high ground on top of our gravity waterer. They definitely got some snuggles and some warm oatmeal in the coop after all that!

The next BBQ might have to include perro asado (grilled canine). My neighbors actually sent me a text asking me not to shoot their dog. I am crazy, but not THAT crazy. We do target practice out back, but we don't shoot at animals. At least they keep their dogs in their yard now (plus we gave them some left over fencing).

Glad your girls escaped with no harm.

If my husband had had it his way, there would have definitely been some extra carnitas being served. Sad thing is, I spent more time looking for my chicken than they did looking for their dog - who eventually ran back home. I'm glad all my girls are ok, for sure! We even got 1 egg so far today (and from the sounds of it, possibly another), I got me some hardcore chickens, lol

I understand and also have been in Your place, but even though its their dog rummaging in Your yard and their responsibility to keep it at home, its Our responsibility to make sure Our yards are preditor resistant.

oh for sure. I don't blame the dog for doing it's doggy thing, it was just super scary for us, and the owners were like "oh well" about their dog getting loose is what was making my husband upset.

My neighbor had goats. Full grown. Two dogs from several miles away came and killed and ATE his goats. There were witness. The police did nothing. I'm increasing my security, but the fence company can't make it until next month.

And that is why you shoot attacking dogs. They will come back. I've seen enough of that growing up
