Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Old Ole and Sven at the bar when Sven mentions, "I just saw a documentarty about Elks. Did you know that they have sex about 10-15 times a day?" Sven replies, "Oh no. And I just joined the Knights of Columbus!"

Ok, found some...my husband made it this past spring...I am painting the wood part, so far it's primed.

I think these were before he added the roost. We just put in a kitty litter pan with nesting material for a portable box. We may add a built in one and enclose it more but it will make it heavier. This was my husband's first construction project anything like this so I think he did rather well :) They used to like to sleep in the tote but now they have the roost - different set of girls now though.

COOL !!! how do you move it around ? My SO made mine with a hitch he welded out of an old bed frame, so it hooks up on our lawn tractor, AND he made handles on the front so 2 people can pivot it or lift it up on the hitch. I love your heighth & 'clearness' for day light !

has an amazing diet.. has been treated for worms and parasites both. gets extra calcium, D3, oyster shells, and ground egg shells, plus all organics and high protein treats.. The others get the same diet and give big beautiful eggs. .. she just isn't.. I check the coop daily for mucus or soft shells, broken eggs.. nothing. Seems like she just might not being laying. There could be internal issues.. I don't know. I can't feel an egg in her.. I've checked. Not sure what else I should do.. As far as the Roo goes.. anyone want ???
This could be what happens when 1) they do not get enough light or
2) you buy big hatchery fowl, especially from a clearing house "hatchery" which do not even have any breeders, they just ship from several breeder hatcheries, so in truth you never really know where your chicks were even hatched.
Once hatched (in whichever state) they are trucked/shipped to a "clearing house" which ships them off to buyers.
In this process, no one knows who's bloodline you have or if it is a good layer/etc.
But I will tell you that the Plymouth line in general is excellent, and the Barred variety is one of my favorites that I have had for decades.
That said, remember to buy from a breeder, someone who shows and cares about the SOP of the breed and variety.
Instead of buying chicks from a recycle garbage clearing house hatchery.

Hi Washingtonians!

My wife and I relocated from West Seattle to the Kitsap Peninsula in June. We are homesteading on 5 acres with 3 other folks and obviously already have a chicken flock going. I'm writing a blog on our experience, which you can check out--http://kitsappermaculture.blogspot.com/.

We got our first flock from Wilco in Gig Harbor, but I would prefer to use another more direct source for our second flock we'll start this spring. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Qelcome to the thread !!!

Hello Neighborhoods,

I am writing this with mixed emotions. I can not take the situation we are in any longer. Some of you might have seen a post I put up about maybe re-homeing our rooster. We live in the country and our neighbor has complained about our rooster because he crows to much. He works night and sleeps during the day and is having a hard to getting sleep. Well we tried to do a no crow collar and it works for our neighbors benefit but it makes me sick to my stomach listening to his gargling crowing. I just can not take the stress of making the neighbor happy. I do not want to have our rooster's life come to a short end because he does his job in keeping watch over his girls.

Does anyone have a place in your flock for him? He is a blue andalusian about 6 1/2months old.
Post your local ?

The White Rocks we got about 3 years (hatchery) ago either were poor layers or didn't lay. the vet did an necropsy on one hen and her laying mechanism was all messed up.....so it explains why those hens never did lay or were poor. I got rid of them and never got any White Rocks since....I would love a good source of them but after that, I am leery.
Talk to Jim at the WFF show...he wins every time !!!

CRAIGSLIST.. there are dozens of local breeders in Kitsap alone.. I've personally gotten all my birds off of Craigslist.. Kitsap and am very happy to meet other "flockers" I have a young Roo that needs rehomed if you are interested.
