So where did you all get your chicks from? I got mine from My Pet Chicken. I'd like to buy locally next time.

I have Lavender, silver laced, gold laced and black Orps, Barbezieux, serama, cream legbars, ameraucana, and isbars.

I got my original set from the Rathdrum feed store, I got a few off craigslist which included a rooster and now I will make my own or maybe order from fellow backyard chickens members.

I buy from various breeders online. Autumn Farm Orpingtons and Heirloom Orpingtons are my favorite to do business with.

Where do you buy your chicken supplies? Right now I shop at Hohl's Feed on Railroad, downtown Bham.
They had a beautiful Chocolate Orpington Hen there two weeks ago...I almost bought her!

I kind of shop all over - Hohl's, Portal Way Farm and Garden, TSC. Because I'm new to the poultry thing, it's fun to shop around and see all the different stuff out there for the birds - my husband just rolls his eyes when I do the "I wonder if the girls would like this" shopping I'll probably be banned from shopping in the spring - the chicks will be so hard to resist lol.

Some of my chicken came from Craigslist and others came from here. Now I hatch all my own chicks. I either use eggs from my flock or I trade with neighbors/friends.

I've gotten birds from feed stores, online poultry wholesalers, and have ordered from breeders. It depends on what you want and want to do. Some breeds can only be truly found through breeders. I've had a mixed bag of success from all three avenues.

I'm really feeling distraught! I ordered 10 chicks from MPC, one died on day 3 and I think THREE others are roosters!

. I don't mind keeping one of them. That leaves me with only 6 hens. I'm thinking next time I'll just order 25 from McMurrey (not straight run, still order females) and then I'll for sure wind up with 4 females and then just sell the rest. Then I'm thinking I should just buy 4 more pullets? I don't know if I can handle raising baby chicks, getting attached to them and then having to give some away. Just going through the pain of watching and wondering if they are Roos or not is killing me!!!
