Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

@catface
Can you show some pictures of your coop set-up. My coop area is very woodsie and I'm really having a stressful time figuring out what to put on my coop floor. Im already having stink with only 10 chickens. Plus I haven't even built them a run area yet. They free range right now but I won't be able to do that forever. You know the "old Baptist Camp" on Mt. Baker Hwy.? Yeah, we run that. I can't have chickens running all over the camp and pooping on the cabin decks!

You could lie and say that you've discovered a remarkably large Robin species.

I can get pics later but I use wood shavings and a granulated deodorizer for horse stalls. I also don't insulate or completely close in the coop/roosting areas. I want my birds very well acclimatized when winter comes. I've always done this and never had any issues. It also helps with ventilation and the smell.
I know, everyone keeps talking about ventilation!! I'm stuck, my coop is what it is!

Here's what mine looks like right now.

This is only one end of it. The temporary wall will come down, there will be nesting boxes and there is a pop door at the other end. I have no options for ventilation close to the ground.

I'm jealous! My coops look like something you'd find in a foxfire book! One is a transformed playhouse that was transformed from a deck, one we bought all the materials for, and one is recycled pallets. I wish I could have an actual building for my birds all sectioned off per flock, dream, dream, dream.

Hey, Foxfire is awesome! Just making things work with what you have is great! Very homestead'ish!

We just made do with what we had which was an old broken down bathhouse from the 60's. Here's what it looked like before:

We'll have to compile a list of members who want to participate and breeds available. But I think it is do-able.

I would love to participate, I would be able to supply olive eggers from my mixed flock. My only roo is a CL mix. Though I'm hatching some Ameracaunas(sp) and if I get a roo from them I will swap my current roo out with one of the those.

I had a direct line from Chile that I could've gotten if I could take care of all the import hoops...
If you end up with any clean faced Araucanas from your hatches I might be interested in buying some. Keep me in mind. :)

I love hatching from my own flock, but they are to the point were I need to get some new bloodlines in there.

It's likely to happen. Both of my roos are clean faced and one of the three hens as well. Will do on keeping you posted.

Here are my coops... I have to say that they are dry, insulated (which was also re purposed material) (except the a frame), have enough perch space and nesting for 15 plus birds comfortably, and we've managed covered out yards plus free ranging. I wish they were a little less utilitarian looking.

The playhouse has a loft with perches as well as a ground floor perching area and 10 nesting boxes.
400

The purpose built. It has two long ledges for perching, two long natural perches, eight nesting boxes.

The pallet a frame. It has two long natural perches and 7 nesting boxes.
