I bet it was! My kids think the "country" is downtown Enumclaw.

Woohoo, another step completed! The chicks are out in their new brooder in the pen. I made a roost and they are loving it. We'll see how long it takes them to venture out, but they were preening, drinking and acting happy within a couple minutes of being stuffed into the cage.

I'd been leaving the lamp off in their basement brooder overnight for the past couple of nights and they weren't acting cold.

Jennifer

That's a cool set-up!

Ok, I used Triodine-7 to clean the wound, have brought her and the other 2 chicks left inside and DH is setting up a big wire dog crate in the basement for them. We don't know what got them. Went down for a visit and one was dead and all torn up in the same area on the neck that this one was, but something had started eating my dead chick already, she had also tried to be pulled through a little hole that had been dug under the coop, I have a chicken wire skirt but whatever it was is small enough to fit through the holes in the wire and was trying to take the dead chick out through the hole.
Thanks for your help!!!
I believe the one that died was my BSL and this one is my Black Australorp. Man, in 1 week I'm down from 7 to 3. This is so frustrating!!

Well, thanks to my Mel Bartholomew (author of Square Foot Gardening) style vertical gardening trellises, I think I have a corner of my yard squared off to fence the chicken tractor inside. There will be an "no bird zone" of about 3 feet between the chicken tractor and the secondary fencing, so hopefully, that will be far enough away for quarantine.

Here's the Mel style trellis...

Now I just need to pick up a roll of 4' high plastic barrier fencing.

We did not make it to the Museum of Flight today. After being out yesterday with the kids most of the day, I just couldn't bring myself to drag them out again today. Wed, Thurs, Fri they have half days at school... I'll plan to go then and drop off the trees I promised.

That's OK itsren, I find plans frequently go awry. lol! I had actually forgotten that you were going to drop the trees of today. I'm working Wed & Thurs, but it is OK to drop them off anyhow. I'm off Fri and will probably be around.

Ok, they're all set up in the basement.
She's acting good. She's eating and drinking very eagerly. I sure hope she's ok!!

If she's eating and drinking good, she'll probably be just fine. Keep an eye on the wound and keep it clean.

I'm really sorry about the one you lost today. Dang predators need to leave our birds alone.
