So my plan of putting several wood eggs in each nest box worked. The girls spread out their eggs pretty evenly today. That's not happened before. I need to clean out the coop and put the wooden nests in under the big metal ones they love. After I hatch some chicks from the ameraucanas I'll be trying to incorporate them into the big pen with the layers since I only have one large fowl rooster now.
I'm down to three silkie boys, one of which is Genghis Pumpkin. Hopefully I'll get another really good boy from him this year. Of the other two silkie boys, one is just a pet with color oddity, the second I like but I think his back is to short for use in breeding. The two get along great so they will probably just stay with the pet girls.
Yes, he is called Genghis Pumpkin for a reason. Large fowl tremble at his approach. Well more like his charge as he attacks them to take whatever they have. He likes to expand his territory and take over, leading his hoard of hens with him. He's been top rooster around here for the last couple years even though he weighs a third of any of the large fowl roosters I've had.
