Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Is your tortoise out today? I forgot what kind you have. I still have to get Jack's in closure built. They are escape artists so I have to build it good. But right now the chicken coop is the number one priority.
We had a desert tortise when I was a kid. It was about 9" long in the shell, and super slow !
That tortise would escape a fully fenced yard with concrete around the entire bottom of the 6'tall redwood board fence.
How ???????????
We could never figure it out.
We'd see it in the middle of the yard, munching grass one morning, then POOF!!!

And then this in a busy neighborhood !

nah only thing we had was the little pet shop style turtle I couldn't have been more
than 4 or 5, it disappeared from whatever it was in, Mom found it when we went
to move out here in 68 dried up in the back of our closet....
had a couple pet mice after we had been here a few years
but never lost them.

I will jumpon the turtle bandwagon!

I have 4 mini musk turtles.
They are about 98% aquotic and rarely if ever come out of the water, they mostly crawl and swim around...love their little faces!

I reused their old nesting boxes and roosts, to help things feel more familiar.

Skylight that acts as a ridge vent in addition to the large gable vents.

The old coop/shed only took an hour to tear down. It was in bad shape.

My afternoon layer, getting reacquainted with her favorite nesting box (an old shoe box).
So cute ! I had a PBR hen decades ago who pitched a fit if I did not let her out of her coop daily so she could run up on the back porch & get in the washing machine to lay her egg.
Heaven forbid if the lid was down !
I also wanted to suggest you add poop trays under your roosts, it helps them walk around & catches all the poop, they do 75% of their poop at night, and it is so easy to clean up with a cat litter spoon & bucket, no bending over & the coop stays super clean 5-6X as long without all the poop on the floor.

Needed something that would hold up to constant ocean air, being only a mile from the beach. Building out of pressure treated wood was going to cost a small fortune. The resin shed was the most cost effective solution.
A great idea, where did you get it ?
I see Costco & Home Depot have some.
I am also looking forward to the Clam Fest this coming weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you attending ?
Or hiding from the touristas ?

Yup. Hubby got our mower battery charged this morning so we got a lot of the mowing done. At this time of year it only takes about 3.5 hours to get it done. Unless you run over a piece of bailing twine you didn't know was there. So I called it quits for today and tomorrow we'll put the mower up so I can get under and remove the twine (and any caked on mud). I did get some weed wacking done as well. Hubby found out that the chainsaw won't start so we need to have that looked at.

And Leia decided to explore the storage when we had it open and got locked in. She's a little cat and normally has a little voice. She heard me when I was shooing the hens into the pen for the night and meowed for all she was worth. I think she climbed up to a vent where she could hear me better to do it. I could barely hear her and looked all over then thought to open that. Out hops Leia all purring and rubbing against me and the dogs.
How cute !!!
I can just see her so happy you rescued her !

Einstein had about 75 feet of 1/2" irrigation line (black drip irrigation type) uncoiled on the grass besides the driveway to let it relax in the sun.
It was like a giant spring until a few days of sun.
Then he left it there, and a few weeks went by with rain, etc.
Then last week he fired up the riding mower to go get a trailer load of compost for me, and he decided to mow his way down the driveway................and no amount of my yelling & whistling could stop him.
We now have black plastic hunks of pipe EVERYWHERE!
He better pick it up !

Got it from Home Depot. Ordered it online, and picked it up from the Warrenton store, so didn't pay sales tax or shipping. We will probably be hiding from the tourists.
