Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Speckled sussex look so pretty!

This is a little odd, but are there any farms or butcher shops nearby that offer dressed heritage or other breeds? I want to try them vs. the commercial Cornish grocery meats. Been checking farmer's markets and craiglist, but I guess meat regulations are (rightfully) much tighter than egg ones.

Not sure how current this list is, but it could be a start.

We have several farms here in our area (Jefferson County) that sell roasters, stew hens, all ages....direct from the farm.

Well birds are running a close second today... cut 8 more 1ft x 61 inches
for a inside pony wall then painted the first side and edges leaning them up to dry
in the barn, tomorrow we get the other side put up of the greenhouse plastic and the door is being done today as well
Mother nature seems to be on our side right now.

You are getting alot accomplished even with your medical issues. I have been so frustrated with postponing projects until after my surgery. I hope to get help completing some things this weekend.

Well see my my best friend and his adult son are willing captives
when it comes to projects they are both afraid I may cut off a finger
or a leg with power tools I was raised using or end up a cripple
if I lift or bend wrong from my spinal column closing in my neck

Iam in Marysville Wa and can't find silkie babies near me anywhere. Anyone near me have any advice?
It depends on if you're willing to travel or pay for shipping. You can usually find some in or around Seattle or some feed stores will include chicks if the breed you want is available from the hatchery they're ordering from.

One of my favorate chicks turned out to be a roo....anyone want a Blue laced red wyandotte rooster? He is really sweet and so pretty!.

Also...anyone in Wa have some blue laced red pullets?

Oh, that's a good idea. Too bad lots of them seem to have large minimum orders ($100+), though. Will poke around more. OTOH, buying a rooster and taking it to a processing place would be a learning experience.

trust me it isn't that exciting or difficult find a stump put two nails very close together
so the head is held by them and you can stretch it..... use a sharp hatchet, hold the chicken
by the legs pull a bit then wack and stand back let go
The trick is in the plucking. have a bucket of boiling water ready if you want the skin left.
going to a butcher shop you more than likely will see how or what is done
it is all in a back room or out in back of the shop.
