Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

If anyone still wants chicks, the Monroe Co-op still has a great selection! I just drove over an hour yesterday to get some of their week old chicks. I had to narrow it down to 3 breeds and I got 2 of each: Dark Brahma, Partridge Rock, Buckeye. I'm already so happy with these - they are so calm compared to the other chicks I've raised this year (Marans, Silkies, Doms and Marans crosses). Just in case anyone wants an enabling push!

Yes it can. Chickens eat less and drink more in hot weather, and they may not take in enough calories or protein for egg production.
I add corn with more crumble and frozen watermelon about every other day and ice blocks in their water,
It is a kick they know the watermelon bowl and start jumping when I bring it in

Is everyone staying cool???????????
Yes, took 3 showered before work today!
1st - after opening all doors to chicken coops, clean out all water and feed for quails and chickens, play around with the fermented feed.
Came back inside to take care of kids while wife head to the market for bread. She wanted to have bread with fresh made strawberry jam she just made last night.

2nd - Went back outside to build a 4 by 6 feet box for 21 2 weeks quails. Finally about to kick those cuties out of my garage.
Came back inside to play playdough with the kids while wife made lunch. Had lunch.

3rd - Cover all the chicken coops with 8 by 16 trap (glad I got that done.. so hot outside), we had a couple of sets of chickens that are still under quarantined before letting them free range.
Placed out a spinning sprinkler on top of a trap for the kids to run around and play in the water.

3 shows before work.......... I feel like I'm the reason why California needs more water.

With it being so hot we have ducklings wandering away from nests without the hens so my husband ends up scooping them up and putting them in the brooder so the crows don't get them. Usually they will stay under the hen for warmth instead of wandering off on their own before the rest of the nest hatches.

We are eating dinner in the only cool room the office just 70 in here
thank our lucky stars for air may not need it much but darn nice when we do need it

I gave my chickens cantaloupe and grapes to help them cool off and get more hydrated. They're not interested in either one of them. I have weird chickens, they never seem to like what people say they like.
