Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My guess might be Little Brown Bat (Myotis lucifugus).....and that you have a young one, or more than one. They are the most common small bat here in Western Wa and like to get in attics or under shingles to have babies and you can get a number of females together to form a nursery. Can live for 30 years, believe it not.......I just love bats!
I think they are little browns too...and being young ones would explain why such nubs for teeth....and so super tiny!
The first one was TEENSY tiny!
These are also dark brown, not light brown as most pictures on the web...and it is so weird they live so long!

They are cool...I wish I knew where they were coming from...maybe the clue is how small they are...maybe the adults (still small!) are too big to squeeze into the enterior of this house...an adult can fit through a nickle sized hole, and these were much smaller...like they'd fit through a dime sized hole for sure !

Wow did not know we had those native to Washington

This is a great group with links to all the species of bats in Washington State.

Bats are so unappreciated for the tremendous insect control efforts they provide......I have a large pond and marsh on my property, but between the swallows and bats we hardly ever see a mosquito. We have put up bat houses for them, but they seem to prefer nesting under the shingles on the side of our house......as it has aged, the shingles pop out a bit, enough to let them snuggle under there to sleep during the day.

There is at least 15 species native to the PNW...little browns are the most common but not the smallest....
And they do grow teeth...mine must have been young.

Ferociuos little guys ! They are so small yet when disturbed or threatened, they open their mouths & grimace like this, possums do it too...designed to scare you away ! But I grabbed mine in a net, then pinned it to the floor & pinched it behind the head like you pick up a mad cat....and it just paralyzed the bat til I could toss it outdoors.
I could not pick it up with my gloves on, the gloves too thick & I would surely have smashed the bat.
These photo below is off the web shown below are 2 BIG brown bats, one eating a mealworm, so you can see how small the BIG brown bat is, LOL:
