Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Today is my birthday so I took it easy all day. My recovery from surgery is going well. I am up to full weight bearing but my muscles are sore and they spasm after a workout so I have to take it slowly. I have been using the bike at the gym and doing physical therapy at home so I am building strength and getting on my feet gradually. I have stabbing and feelings of electrical currents running through the top of the foot and toes but that is supposed to resolve in the next few months. I am trying to desensitize the surgical incisions but other than the strange sensations they are healing nicely.
Happy Birthday !

To understand the situation, you need to know where the meter access is. It's right on the shoulder of the road. The stretch of road in front of my property is the only section of actual shoulder for a good quarter mile. A lot of cars stop along there for various reasons, and they usually end up sitting right on top of the meter access. The meter is surrounded by concrete, but it's set so that about half the concrete 'shield' is sitting on soft soil. The pressure from numerous vehicles driving over it was enough to cause a crack in the pipe. It wasn't till the meter reader drove his truck over it, that a noticeable leak occurred. But, since the break happened on the pipe that is technically my property, we are responsible for fixing it, even if it was the city's truck that did the damage.
Seems the city still needs to deal with it since so many vehicles run over it.

that stink's ours is actually behind our fence line a few feet into the yard
the guys were stepping over bending the wire to get a reading we have
offered a gate be placed there
We have our own water, as in, this property is fully self contained.

We have our own wells, and when we run low, we dig another one.

We have storage tanks as our soil is clay down to the center of the earth..with gravel veins that are near artisian...the trick is finding the vein..........all the rest of the millions of gallons of water that falls on this land, flows out to sea..........some wells drilled out here actually hit salt water, as the river is brackish & these "salt caves" exist (so they say) but I have dug a well everywhere I have ever lived except in North Idaho, I had one drilled by a well driller...

The water is pumped to tanks but on the way it passes a UV sterilizer and then a Dosatron Chlorinator to deal with any bacteria.

From there it flows into one of 3 -1000K storage tanks.
Then a big pump keeps the house pressurized.

Having property is like having your own city.

ok went out picked hazelnuts put them in a box to dry
may pick more in the garden area after the sun goes down
very, very, warm outside here
I have done everything BUT collect nuts...but I did notice Blue Jays and Whiskey Jacks showing up this morning...so how do these jays crack these nuts ?

My Dad says the Jays and Jacks are ALL OVER his Hazelnut trees soon as the nuts fall................. ?

We have the county fair this week. Of course, I went to the small animal barn and there were hardly any chickens!!!! Also, it has been very close to 100 this week and my gilt pig decided it was time to farrow!!!! Ugh. I have been dehydrated all week after staying outside in the barn with her. My spring chickens are starting to lay eggs. I have several Buff Orpingtons and Silver Wyandottes. We are now getting too many eggs. However, I remember last winter having to buy eggs. lol.
Our fair is this Thursday on~~~ I think, I am not getting involved althought have been asked a few times to help judge, and do disease testing~~~~~~~ it is too hot, Fair needs to be earlier...............like in June, before birds molt and all the veggies die.

Certain veggies are thriving now...but not many.

Right now I am still dehydrating mini tomatoes (Sundried Tomatoes) and potatoes.and jammin', Red Bartlett Pears are about ready.........Greens are smaller & not ready.............a few apples are

almost ready (Sweet 16) and we have dehydrated zuchinni so I have 7 gallons stored, and 2 gallons taters, and 2 gallons Tuscan Kale (It is WONDERFUL to toss in a stew or soup (like Minnestroni) in the dead of winter) I also have to dehydrate some of the Russian Kale....but am getting tuckered...........and here comes apple season !
