Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

just putting a little shout out for two businesses I've had very good luck with.  the Monroe co-op and jenks hatchery in OR.  I'm in shoreline and I've bought chicks a variety of ways, incubated shipped eggs and had meat chicks mailed to me.  the monroe coop is worth the drive!  they get 1,000 chicks a week with 30 varieties and the health has been great with the one's we got this year.  as for Jenks, they carry a specific line of Cornish Cross called the COBB 500 that are healthy, perky and are much more chicken like than other lines.  they grow fast, like all CX but they jump around, flap their wings and do the running flying things I'm used to seeing in healthy chicks.  I've had 100% livability with my Jenks order two years in a row.  Jenks is a straight shot up 1-5 so they arrive in less than 24 hours, their customer service is awesome, the owner spoke with me on the phone for quite a while helping me get my husbandry down, all for the sale of 25 chicks.  these guys care about even the little guy!

Welcome!

I don't raise meat birds, but that is nice to know.

Shout out to myself and Kitsap County. Bremertonian. 98312.
Hey Welcome major rainstorm hitting here right now been working with my younger housmate
James on our garden plan placing weed block under the tires we are going to plant in...
Please do you have chickens? how many what type or breed ?

How old you get them before processing then

Six months at least usually so I can evaluate them. Unless there is an obvious fault like split wing. The two I did last week were about 5 months. Both had split wing.

I have a pullet that age I'm torn on. One wing is split but otherwise she's shaping up to be a very nice looking silkie. I don't eat girls. Someone always wants them so selling works fine.

see now I want two of your ladies when the new coop is done
but any I got can have issues as they I hope will be my broodies

I'm getting ready to set more eggs. Had some issues and had to delay. So it will be summer before I have any available. There is no question on partridge silkie sex, unlike other colors. The sexual color difference will be obvious well before they are ready to evaluate. Really nicely colored pullets I can start telling around 4 weeks. Some at that age that I think may be boys turn out to be girls if I wait a few weeks.
