Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I want to be able to let them in the yard during the day. But if they keep flying over the fence I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do that. I did put about 6 inches of pig wire along the top rail thinking that if they didn't have something solid to land on they wouldn't jump up there. So now they figured out some other way to get out. They better give me some pretty eggs to make up for all this pain in the butt there been :)

I had to clip both wings to keep them down. One did nothing LOL

They do have pretty eggs and are good layers. Mine are a lot of fun but they would fly out if I didn't have a top on things. Do yours make that loud whinny waaauk waaauk noise, I have it down and call them that way good thing I don't have close neibors they would think I was nuts. I let them outside a lot to graze

Mom clips both on her parrot when she (the parrot) gets too full of herself. It knocks her attitude down a few notches since it takes her a ton of effort to fly across the room and she can't fly down the hall to find Mom anymore. The humility of having to walk.

She's safer clipped, though I don't think she'd take off outside again. Curiosity got the better of her a several years ago and she got out one fall day. Looked all over the neighborhood. 3 days later the neighbor spotted her huddled up in his tree and called Mom. Mom went over and tried calling her down but she'd been clipped all her life to that point and didn't fly well. So she sat there calling back to Mom. Mom got her favorite food and climbed as high as she could up a ladder offering a bite. Isabel finally climbed down and clutched onto Mom for dear life. She's been afraid of the outdoors since. Mom usually leaves her unclipped as much as she can now figuring flight knowledge is a good thing. Isabel has learned to to fly and manuever quite well, but she's a teenager and has that attitude.

I mostly had to do just 1 each on the new birds couple stubborn the laced from Gena had to have both narrowed my egg eater to one of them half to do it at night I know where the sweet one roosts but also have three not coming in the coop they do not like the changes I made.. ordered them 5 lbs of meal worms arrived today

Tis the season to be broody now I have a cream legbar broody in jail she nailed me a good one in the arm when I grabbed her. I new something was up she wandered way over by the house the last two days and didn't want to go back to the barn I locked them up yesterday thinking she was going to hide out somewhere good thing, she went full on broody tonight found her puffed up in one of the nest boxes on my evening rounds.

Rodent hunt tonight resulted in 1 kill. We missed 4 of them yesterday. I figured out why when I got a good look at the dead one that I thought was a juvenile. It wasn't a rat. It was a very pregnant mouse. They react differently than the rats so I have to change tactics on chasing them out towards the dogs.

So the good thing is that since I hadn't seen any rodents for a month until this last week, we may have gotten rid of the rats again. Mice are easier to deal with in the long run.

I've also had a lot of shrews around again, which I think the rats would kill and eat. The cats, dogs, and large chickens eat those.
