Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

View attachment 1043349

I got these when they were about 10 weeks old and the original owner wasn't doing water nipples. I've never had much trouble getting any to switch over and these took to it pretty fast. Hold a small bit of fruit, that I know they like, near the nipple seems to get them to peck in the right place faster. Otherwise they tend to just go after the water that hits the ground. Silly birds! In this case one seems much more inclined to peck the nipple than the other one. I wonder if the crest has anything to do with it. I'm thinking vision impairment.

Mine are both pullets, a splash that's non-crested and a crested blue based red(?). I get very confused when it comes to naming the red/orange/brown/mahogany and what you are calling yellow. And I can't really picture what a yellow one would look like. Do you happen to have a picture, or a link to a picture that would show what you have in mind? When I think yellow, I think of baby chick and baby duck yellow. :)

That being said, the 2 flocks I know around here that aren't totally related are Nicole Davis (edmonds) and Carolyn Schuster (gig harbor). Todd in Oregon (near Travis) used to have them, too, can't remember his last name. And there are a lot of breeders on the East coast and Florida that have some nice flocks with a lot of variety.
Here ya go....yellow, an this being a hen............but imagine it on a cockerel...

Rodent hunt tonight resulted in 1 kill. We missed 4 of them yesterday. I figured out why when I got a good look at the dead one that I thought was a juvenile. It wasn't a rat. It was a very pregnant mouse. They react differently than the rats so I have to change tactics on chasing them out towards the dogs.

So the good thing is that since I hadn't seen any rodents for a month until this last week, we may have gotten rid of the rats again. Mice are easier to deal with in the long run.

I've also had a lot of shrews around again, which I think the rats would kill and eat. The cats, dogs, and large chickens eat those.

We are fortunate Fear kills then leaves them for us to fin but moles and assume voles and a few mice but no rats as of yet :clap:oops:

I have decided to change my main doctor guy I really hate the idea of changing doc's but going to the other one is a pot shot and we have a almost 2 hour drive to see them so making calls today.. Our Del's farm and feed in Morton serves a whole group of us from Packwood to Chehalis to Yelm they are the only feed store although TSC in all their great minds are to stupid to think we all will drive 45 minutes to go to their other stores or open our own little shop :he they have decided to close the Morton store when the lease on the building is up :sick

Most the Del's are gone bought out by tractor supply they are the ones limiting what the store has shooting their own selves... waiting till the lease is up on the building to shut them down

We tend to make the drive to Coastal in Auburn once a month for dog and chicken food. Then it's a short hop over to Federal Way so I can hit Trader Joe's and H-Mart.

Though with hubby starting this new job last week, I can have him stop by on the way home since the new work is 5 minutes from Coastal.

He likes the new job other than getting used to the paperwork. Easy work and everyone is pretty nice he says. The work environment is peaceful. Plus he doesn't get sent to different states for half the year or more.

we do not have that luxury from here but our choice to live out of the way... Super Happy he likes the new job that allows him home more good for both of you..

Tics me that Del's have been out of the high pro DUMORE pellets since about April 1st~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ and we need that for geese ans ducks growing on....
IT IS PISSING ME OFF!
I have gone to Tractor supplies ALL OVER western WA, to Puyallup, Oly, and so on, and no one has any high pro pellets for game/geese.
Best I can find is (on occasion) a bag of "flock raiser" once in a while :sick
